Lower Cost = Less Luxury

Sail Date: March 01, 2013

Traveled As: Family (young children)

Room Type: Inside

Our family of four had fun exploring the Sensation. The Waterworks area\, mini golf course\, and dining rooms were our favorite spots.

Pros: Our day at the beach

Cons: Frequent solicitation for drinks\, souvenirs\, etc. (while aboard the ship)

Recommends Carnival Sensation? No.

Children's Programs
Carnival seems to offer more activities for adults than families. We found plenty to do for a four night cruise\, but we would have been bored out of our minds on a longer cruise.
Entertainment
We especially enjoyed the trivia contests\, dance instruction clinics\, and karaoke events.
Service and Staff
The staff and crew of the Sensation were terrific.
Cabin / Stateroom
We chose an interior stateroom to save some money\, and it was fine. Our 5- and 7-year olds slept well on their pullman beds\, and we had enough room to unpack everything and feel comfortable. The steward did a wonderful job keeping it clean for us.
Food and Dining
The only negative aspect of dining at the the buffet in the Lido dining room was having to deal with other passengers. The staff worked tirelessly to keep everything well-stocked and clean\, and the food was always delicious...But so many of our fellow cruisers behaved like gluttonous slobs\, it was downright embarrassing. The atmosphere in the Fantasy dining room was much more sophisticated. We enjoyed the staff's attentiveness and responsiveness every evening at dinner. We opted for the Your Time dining\, and it worked out great. The only time we had to wait for a table was the evening we got in line at 7 PM\, and even then it was a short wait.
Ship Quality
The Sensation was built in 1993\, and it shows. While it has been maintained well and the staff works diligently to keep it clean\, the decor is outdated and the staterooms would benefit from an update.
