This was our first cruise, and I would highly recommend it to anyone with a family. My husband, two daughters and I took this four-night cruise to the Bahamas not really knowing what to expect. From the first night, though, we were glad we'd signed up for the trip. To begin with, the food was outstanding! Aside from the dining room - which offered fantastic meals cooked to order - you had your choice of pizza, deli, grill, or buffet, along with a fantastic salad, dessert and ice cream bar, and all offered 24 hours a day! Any of them could be ordered through room service at no extra charge as well! To work off all the food, the ship offered a large pool with a hot tub at each end, three water slides for the kids, a miniature golf course, a jogging track, and a fitness center. There was plenty of nightlife available (casino, bars, lounge, shows on stage) and for the kids, the ship offered a "camp" that had games, arts and crafts, and various other activities so that no one had the excuse of nothing to do.
I would recommend that you bring at least $500 extra spending money, as there are many things you might need to purchase on the trip. Drinks other than coffee, tea, juice and water cost extra (you might consider buying an unlimited drink card) and the crew takes lots of photos, which cost extra. Excursions can be purchased in advance, but we waited until we got to the ports of call. There were lots of souvenir shops near the dock, but for sightseeing, we had to get a taxi, which was an additional expense.
Overall, we had a great time! I think next time we take a cruise, though, we will go with other family or friends. We hung out with two other families, but it would have been so much more fun with people we knew. For a family who wants a fun vacation, I would highly recommend taking a cruise!
