Review summary

This was our 4th Carnival cruise, and 2nd on the Pride out of Baltimore. We prefer destinations where the beaches are very close to the ship and don't require a cab ride. Grand Turk and Half Moon Cay (with ship's tender) meet that. Half Moon Cay is stunning, I can't stay out in the sun all day, so I didn't really get to enjoy it 2 years ago. This time we rented the cabana, and it was fantastic. I highly recommend that. We feel very comfortable on the Pride, the staff was great. Our room steward and wait staff were beyond top notch. We had a balcony room. We asked for an ice bucket-no problem. I asked for a reclining lounge chair for the balcony-no problem. Extra towels, preferred time for cabin cleaning, laundry service...no problem. This group was amazing. We enjoy the comedy shows, these were kind of hit and miss. These guys do so many shows that I think they are trying to stretch out their material. Overall, the food was great. I love Guy's Burger Joint, but one of the servers was a bit of a pain-didn't want to prepare my burger as requested. I didn't get his name, but should have. The breakfast was good, I had a freshly made omelette every morning. One surprising thing...to my knowledge, no fried chicken tenders anywhere on the ship. With kids on board, you would think.... The dining room meals were delicious, service was amazing. We have already booked next year's 7 day cruise on the Pride and we have booked a suite this time.

Embarkation

Would have given 5 stars but we had a bit of a wait as nearly all the crew disembarked, it took a while to clear them through customs. The port staff was friendly and efficient, pretty smooth other than the prolonged wait.

Service and Staff

Our room steward (Rommel) and his team did an amazing job. Great service and they gave us every extra thing we asked for with a smile. Our wait led (led by Stanley) in the Normandy dining room was fantastic. They made our dinner experiences so enjoyable and made us feel very welcome. We were greeted by name from day and always had our drinks ready.

Ship Quality

A lot of folks gripe about the age of the Pride. True, it is showing its age but is still overall a beautiful ship and there is a lot to love about it. The ship was clean and there were various maintenance projects going on that illustrate that they are trying to keep up with the demands of an older ship.

We hit the beach right by the pier, and some shopping close by. The green umbrellas are free, which is different from 2 years ago. You will want an umbrella.

We did the cabana this time, and totally loved it. I was able to be in the sun as much a I chose to be. and shaded the rest of the time. I know they have raised the price of this, but it still worth it if someone in your party needs to be careful of too much sun exposure. The beach is gorgeous, the water so clear its ridiculous. Loved this place, wish we had more time there. I would be willing to give up Freeport and spend a 2nd day here.

Freeport, Grand Bahama Island

We have only shopped here, this is our souvenir stop. The place has an industrial feel to it, but the people are nice. The wife likes it because they sell fried conch fritters, which she loves. I can take this port or leave it.

No, they didn't charge anything for the reclining lounge chair. They just switched it out for one of the regular chairs. We like sailing from Baltimore because it is about a 55 minute flight from Columbus, Ohio and we like the 2 days at sea to start the cruise. This was our 2nd time on the Pride, so we knew where everything was and tried to take better advantage of what they had to offer. We never made it to the Piano bar, but other reviews make it sound like we didn't miss much. I tried to leave important info that I wish someone would have told us about, if you have any questions, please ask.

Was there an extra charge for the reclining lounge chair? You’re right, there are no chix tenders anywhere but there are nuggets on the kids menu.
