Rip-off Shore Excursions

Sail Date: December 01, 2014

Reviewed: 1 year ago

Traveled As: Family w/older children

Room Type: Oceanview

The ship was updated and very adequate. Shore excursions are operated by an independent company. They are very overpriced for what you receive. We booked the land and sea tour in Grand Caymen specifically so we could go under water and view the coral reef. At the last minute while we were lining-up at the very-disorganized congregating place on the island\, the man told us that the sea portion was cancelled due to murky water. We were very disappointed. He offered only about $11 discount which meant that we were paying $50 each for a terrible land tour that took us to a turtle farm\, rum shop\, and a place to see a rock. Rip-off indeed. We also had the option of not doing the tour and full refund. However\, it was too late to book any other tour. What were we to do on the island? Carnival and the tour operator should have notified us prior to leaving the ship so that we could have had the opportunity to book another tour. By the way\, on our ferry ride back\, I spoke with others who took a different underwater reef tour. They said it was excellent\, and the water was clear. In other words\, you pay a high fee\, and are at the mercy of the operators and their excuses. Buyer beware!!!

Pros: Courtesy and professionalism of the entire ship staff

Cons: Rip-off\, Overpriced Shore Excursions

Recommends Carnival Pride? Yes!

Ship Quality
Ship was clean\, but our room toilet always smelled as if it needed toilet bowl cleaner.
Food and Dining
Food was great and in massive quantity. Our dining time was flexible. That worked out best with our ever-changing schedule.
Cabin / Stateroom
Ship was clean\, but our toilet always smelled as if it needed toilet bowl cleaner. Room was relatively large for a boat.
Service and Staff
Very friendly and accomodating staff. They are well-trained in \"western\" manners and courtesies.
The Punchliner Comedy Club was the best. I hope they continue with that entertainment. The comedians were excellent. The variety shows were well choreographed. The singing was average. Special effects were very good.
Children's Programs
My 15 year old kid had no interest in spending time with Mom and Dad. He was always at the O2 Club. He enjoyed that hideaway.
