Best family vacation we've had

Sail Date: April 01, 2010

Traveled As: Family (young children)

Room Type: Suite

We sailed on the Carnival Pride from Baltimore, MD to the Bahamas for our son's Easter Break from school. The availability of children's programming onboard and the proximity of Baltimore (just 1 1/2 hours from our home) made this a good choice for us. Although the Pride seemed to have some wear and tear on her, she was still a lovely ship: clean, accessible, and staffed with outstanding personnel.

Pros: The Carnival shore excursions, kids' programs on-board

Cons: Breakfast was the least appealing thing our cruise offered; we chose to grab a plate of fresh fruit and coffee most mornings

Recommends Carnival Pride? Yes!

We only had time to take in two shows while on board. Both were good.
Ship Quality
The public areas were always immaculate.
Food and Dining
The dinners in the formal dining room were outstanding. Our table was located on the second level of the room, in a booth, so we missed out on the real ambiance of the dining room. Those who were seated below, particularly at the larger shared tables, were treated to a spectacular view of the room. At lunch time, we chose the buffet, which had enough variety to accommodate even vegetarians and picky children. My son (who is 8) loved the fact that he could always order chicken nuggets and french fries, even in the formal dining room.
Cabin / Stateroom
We stayed in an ocean-suite, which was quite comfortable. Our bathroom was spacious, with a separate vanity area, which made it easy for three of us to shower and dress in the mornings. Our only complaint about the stateroom is that there was no divider between our king-size bed and our son's sofa-bed. A curtain would have been welcome.
Service and Staff
Staff were outstanding. Without exception, everyone took the time to ask us how they could make our stay more enjoyable. Everyone had time to stop and chat for a few moments, which made the impression that they were welcoming and unhurried. Whenever we asked for anything, from our wait-staff in the dining room, or from our room stewardess, our requests were answered immediately.
Children's Programs
Our son spent 2 half-days and one whole day in the children's program, even taking in a show with the other children on one night. The staff-to-children ratio was excellent, and we felt very comfortable with leaving him in their care. Our son had fun each time he participated, which is the most relevant rating we can give!
