Our First Cruise, Wont Be Our Last

Sail Date: April 11, 2011

Reviewed: 6 years ago

Traveled As: Family (young children)

Room Type: Oceanview

The ship was great. Well maintained and clean. The staff was friendly and always happy to help. This was our first cruise so we have no basis for comparison but definitely WONT be our last. The food at buffets and room service were ok and plentiful. The evening meals were by far the best and wonderful. The dinner staff was very accommodating, helpful and flexible. As far as entertainment there weren't as many options as we would have liked but we really just wanted to get away and relax so that was ok. The comedy shows weren't the best I've ever been to but good enough. Our biggest complaint was that the pools were freezing! The weather was nice an sunny with a cool breeze and since the pools were not heated it was impossible to use them. Be prepared to climb A LOT of stairs or have the patience to wait a long time for elevators.

Pros: Great Value, Easy get away

Cons: Entertainment options and freezing pools

Recommends Carnival Paradise? Yes!

Food and Dining
The buffets were good enough, dinner was excellent. Restaurants had nice atmosphere, elegant but relaxed. Kid friendly. Lots of options.
The schedule of some of the shows conflicted with our assigned dinner time which was annoying. There wasn't much to do as far as entertainment. The shows we did attend weren't the greatest but good enough.
Ship Quality
Clean, well maintained, easy to navigate and find things, tons of stairs but that will just help work off all the food :P Biggest complaint was the freezing cold pools.
Cabin / Stateroom
Clean, comfortable, roomy. Nothing fancy but everything you need to be comfortable.
Service and Staff
Friendly, willing to help. Our dinner server always remembered our names even when seen at other times around the ship. He was very accommodating with our special request as we were traveling with 3 picky eaters and one demanding man :)
Children's Programs
The kid's programs were great. Both of our boys, ages 4 and 12, had a blast. The only complaint I have about them is that they would close for an hour or two like twice a day in the middle of the day. The staff was great with our 4 year old. By the end of the cruise neither of them wanted to leave.
Catalina Island, California
Good port, nothing real special if you're a Southern California local but still nice. Lots of shops and things to see. DO NOT waste your $$$ on the glass bottom boat excursion!
Ensenada, Mexico
We took a great tour, the gold coast tour. Gave us a different perspective on Mexico. Fun, nothing too scary. Good shopping, good restaurants.
Don't Miss: Golden Coast Tour
