My sister and I are first time cruisers and were looking forward to this trip as a good way to test the cruise waters as it was short, left from a convenient port and fit our budgets. Since we dont have previous personal experience, our expectations were moderate. The boarding procedure was efficient and professional. No slow moving lines and plenty of staff processing us in. Once on board, we found our room (inside upper deck) and were pleasantly surprised by its spaciousness. Almost immediately our room steward knocked on the door and introduced himself. He already knew our names and made a point to use them throughout the trip. My sister requested lots of ice and he made it a point to keep our ice bucket full. Overall, we found the staff to be friendly, and helpful. Talking to some of them we found that they work very long hours with very little time off from duties. The ship is old and a bit worn, but the crew is constantly cleaning and polishing, so it never felt dirty (except the poolside bathroom, ick!). The food was fresh and plentiful. I wouldnt classify it as fine dining but it was good and something was always available. We opted for open seating which was a good choice for us. Being friendly types, we made it a point to speak to those sitting at the surrounding tables, and met some very interesting people. Our shore excursion to Ensenada was OK. Our tour guide has perhaps seen too many tourists and made several comments to the effect that while our money was a welcome addition to their economy, our presence was an inconvenience. I dont think anyone in our group purchased any wine from the wineryso sorry Entertainment we varied and the production shows very good, but we walked out on the comedy act. Disco night at the Rex was a hit. Since this is a Fun Ship alcohol was plentiful, and apparently being consumed in vast quantities by the 20 & 30 somethings. We didnt bother them and they pretty much didnt bother us. There are enough areas onboard that we could relax away from the partying. It was great to see the number of families on board. We did find the constant photo ops annoying to the point of becoming obnoxious. I dislike being forced to be rude to people who are tying to make a living, but enough already! We enjoyed our spa treatment and my technician was very informative and spent a lot of time with me. As a result I spent the cost of the cruise in spa products and services. Debarkation was painless and quick, probably because the ship was leaving in a few hours for the next cruise. Would I take another cruise? Absolutely!

Pros: Watching Long Beach dissapear from rear deck with drink special in hand

Cons: parting in hallways at night

Recommends Carnival Paradise? Yes!

Food and Dining
The food was fresh and plentiful. I wouldnt classify it as fine dining but it was good and something was always available. We opted for open seating which was a good choice for us. Being friendly types, we made it a point to speak to those sitting at the surrounding tables, and met some very interesting people. The dining room staff was very accomodating and friendly
Cabin / Stateroom
We found our room (inside upper deck) and were pleasantly surprised by its spaciousness. We opted for no window to save money and since we didn't plan to spend a lot of time there. But a window would be nice
Service and Staff
Overall, we found the staff to be friendly, and helpful. Talking to some of them we found that they work very long hours with very little time off from duties. our room steward knocked on the door and introduced himself. He already knew our names and made a point to use them throughout the trip. My sister requested lots of ice and he made it a point to keep our ice bucket full.
Entertainment
Entertainment we varied and the production shows very good, but we walked out on the comedy act. Disco night at the Rex was a hit. There was no way we could be everywhere and do everthing we wanted to
Ship Quality
The ship is old and a bit worn, but the crew is constantly cleaning and polishing, so it never felt dirty (except the poolside bathroom, ick!). It is a nice size. not too large, plenty of room ot explore and hide away
Ensenada, Mexico
Our City & Shopping shore excursion to Ensenada was OK. Our tour guide has perhaps seen too many tourists and made several comments to the effect that while our money was a welcome addition to their economy, our presence was less so. I dont think anyone in our group purchased any wine from the wineryso sorry The sidewalk cafe where we had the requisite fish taco took 30 min of the 1 hour alloted. We were subjected to a jilion street vendors the whole time we waited....not fun
