For our first cruise ever we chose the smoke-free Paradise and we're glad we did. We can only hope there will be more smoke-free ships to choose from in the future. How wonderful to not have smelly smoke anywhere!! We went on the 7-day Western Caribbean cruise, departing from Miami on 12/01/2002. Embarkation went slowly but smoothly. Actually, we were a little disappointed with how lax security was. The ship was nice and very clean. Our cabin stewards did a fabulous job the entire week. The food was good but the service was only fair. We thought it should have been better considering there was usually only four at our table. The entertainment was fair. We saw three very funny comedians. The shows were what we expected - not really our cup of tea. Senior citizens enjoyed them a lot more than we did. Luckily, we had wonderful weather but we were never able to get near a whirlpool as they were always full and the pools were very small and crowded as well. Our only real negative experience was the tender service to Grand Cayman. Unbelieveably rude people crammed into a tiny waiting area acting as if it were a life-or-death situation to be first on the next tender. There was a great deal of pushing and shoving. It was so bad there were actually young girls crying next to us. Hopefully, Carnival can come up with a better plan. All in all, it was a pleasant first experience with some room for improvement, but we will definitely cruise again.
