You know when you finally get on the plane in your home city and think, "YES, it's finally here....VACATION!!" ?? This is how my husband and I felt on our one year Anniversary October 15, 2000. Finally, we can get away from it all and ENJOY ourselves, have fun, stay up late and eat! I was thrilled to read some of the reviews by passengers and nervous about others, but the truth is they should bring Troy Lindon back because whoever he is, he must have been one hell of a cruise director. Instead, we were left with a guy who had barely any presentaion skills and was corny with his stupid jokes and innuendos. The ship lacked nightlife. I mean, NOTHING to do. Okay a comedy show at 12 am 2 nights during the cruise and that was it! Forget staying up late, there was nothing to do! The ship lacked an abundance or even an assortment of onboard activities. If you wanted to play TRIVIA all week, great, but anything else, you're out of luck. Also the cruise director, Dave Armour, had a "Social Host", Marty, that lacked social skills! I mean, he wasn't even all that pleasant or fun! If it's karaoke you want, you'll either have to miss dinner in the dining room or skip out on the show because the timing was all wrong. ONE NIGHT there was music outside by the pool and I bet there weren't 50 people there! Lack of interest? Or disgust? Oh yeah, plan to bring bottles of water(we did) because they zap you $3.00 a liter. And plan to pay for your soda, even at dinner! And even though lemonade and iced tea are available FREE 24/7 in the Paris Restaurant, if you request it with a meal, you are charged! What a joke! Meals were mediocre, but service was excellent. Elevators never worked right. That was very annoying. Ship was bouncy and loud and it seemed like you could here everything that was happening up and down the hallways above and beneath our cabin. Slamming doors (we guessed crew), loud bangs, thuds. It didn't make for pleasant sleeping. I sailed the INSPIRATION in 1996 and had a wonderful time. Last year for our Honeymoon we tried Royal Caribbean, Enchantment and were pleased. The staff was excellent and the cruise director was a blast and kept lots of activites available for all age groups. I thought Paradise would prove something to Royal Caribbean. The only thing it proved to me was that RCCL cannot be beat! Next year, we're heading out on the Voyager. Sorry this is so lengthy, but if it saves just one of you from spending you hard-earned money on a disaster, I have achieved my goal.N.Proulx, RI
