Each passenger was asked if they had been in China the previous 14 days . That was the extent of checking for the virus. There were close to 5000 passengers on the ship, so it would be a daunting task to make everyone prove they had not been in China. It's not foolproof, but I would hope people would be truthful about their travels. You would have a much greater chance of catching a cold than the Conona virus.
