Was not impressed with Carnival Cruise Line. We have sailed on Disney and Royal Caribbean, and Carnival just didn't do it for us. We enjoyed Alaska, the excursions were good and the scenery beautiful. The food was just ok- both dining room and buffet- a few things were good, most was average and some things were inedible. Even the hamburgers and desserts were just ok, how do you mess up sugar and a greasy burger? The pizza was the shining star. Cabins were ok, small but good storage. Mattress was not that comfortable. One of our main complaints was our balconies (we had three cabins in a row with opened extended balconies). The balcony itself was great: It was the smokers that ruined it for us. We had smokers on both sides--the one on the right was just occasional but the one on the left was a chain smoker and lit up the second he woke up until he went to bed. Somewhere above us was a cigar smoker and we ended up with ash drifting down on our balcony. Made the balcony unusable at times. Asked some cruise employee about it, but they said they were allowed to smoke on the balcony and there was nothing that could be done. This never happened to us before. All in all, it wasn't terrible but we won't be back.
