First Time on Carnival

Sail Date: November 11, 2010

Reviewed: 5 years ago

Traveled As: Couple

Room Type: Balcony

This was our first time on a Carnival cruise. We got on board the ship quick and easy and did not have any problems with that. Our main problem was that we booked a balcony cabin and we had never had on before. We had a nice view from our cabin, but the cigarette smoke from the other balconies around us was unbearable. We are not smokers and do not like to be around lots of cigarette smoke. We went to the guest services and inquired if smoking was allowed on the balconies and was told that smoking is allowed in the cabins as well as the balconies and that they could do nothing for us. Had we known this ahead of time we would not have chosen a balcony cabin.
The food on the ship was very good in the main dining room and the buffet restaurant food was good as well. They had a very good selection in both places as well. The pizza was good from the 24 hr pizza place. The only food that they ran out of during the week was bananas and they ran out of them by day 3.
The entertainment was very good they had their dancers and singers do a few different shows that we great. They also had 4 comedians on board and they were all excellent. They also had a ventriloquist on board and he was very good as well.
The daily activities were lots of fun and the staff was very nice and fun to be around.
We had a wonderful time on this cruise, we did have a change of ports but it was for the better. We were supposed to go to St. Kitts, but because a tour group from another cruise line was robbed at gun point the day before our captain decided to skip this island and go to Antigua instead. All of the passengers seemed to be happy with this choice.

Pros: Food, Friendliness of staff, ship was very clean, daily activities.

Cons: Overwhelming cigarette smoke, and the drunk idiots on board the ship.

Recommends Carnival Miracle? Yes!

Cabin / Stateroom
I rated the stateroom as good, because it was was a nice size and it had a balcony. We got an obstructed view balcony and it was fine. The obstruction was that we had a life boat right below our cabin, but we could see out just fine. Our cabin was on the 5th floor. I would have rated the cabin higher, except for the fact that you are allowed to smoke on the balcony and in the staterooms, so we could not use our balcony because everyone around us smoked and it was not enjoyable at all.
The ships dancers and singers were excellent. The show that we liked the best was called "Ticket to Ride" it was a tribute to the Beatles and it was wonderful. They have two singers that are great and all the dancers are outstanding.
They also had 4 comedians on board and they all were very good. I like Jimmy Carroll the best.
The had lots of activities to do each day as we did have 4 days at sea. We had a hard time doing all we wanted to do, because there was so much to do.
Ship Quality
The ship was in great shape, very clean. We always saw the workers cleaning and dusting. Each time we were in port they were painting the ship and doing there best to keep it looking its best.
Food and Dining
The quality of the food was very good. We enjoyed the food in all the restaurants and the only complaint was that they did not have a lot of fruits that my wife liked, such as pineapple and bananas. Our waiter also recommended one night that we did not order one of the desserts. One of the people at our table had ordered the sugar free pumpkin pie and he asked her what else she wanted, because she would not like that. She ordered something else and he brought out both and she was glad she ordered something else. The sugar free pumpkin pie was awful just as he told her it would be. So she was thankful that he let her know. Our wait staff was excellent.
Service and Staff
We must say that the crew was so very friendly and went out of their way to get to know you and make you feel welcome. It was nice when you saw them around the ship and they called you by name when they said hello.
Castries, St. Lucia
We took a horseback riding excursion. It was fun and we got to take the horses to the beach. We had originally booked a different tour and it was cancelled because of damage from hurrican Tomas. So we did not get to see the island as we had hoped. We will try to get back here again someday and see the whole island.
Don't Miss: Try to see the Pitons and the springs and waterfalls.
Philipsburg, St. Maarten
We have been here two other times, so we just went into the city and walked around and shopped. It was nice and we felt comfortable walking around.
Don't Miss: Butterfly tour is nice and fun.
