A gay couple on a straight cruise

Sail Date: August 27, 2006

Traveled As: Couple

Room Type: Balcony

The ship was the Carnival Miracle, we left Tampa Florida on the 27th of August 2006, the ship was immaculate, the food and service were impeccable, the shows were fantastic. The only drawback on this ship was the small pools, there were alot of bodies stuffed into the 3 small pools and jacoozies. There seemed to be a lot less public space on this ship than say the Carnival Glory or the Inspiration or on Holland Americas VanDam which we have been on. On this cruise the cruise directors, you know the ones who host the shows and bingo and such, were never seen except when there was something going on, you never saw or heard of them in between, never even caught their names where on all other cruises we felt like family to them, knew their names and it was always hugs and kisses when the cruise was over. Not on this one. There was a nice mix of people on board which always makes for a more fun trip. There were from what we could see only maybe 2 or 3 other gay couples on board but we never once were made to feel uncomfortable in any way at any time by the crew or the other guests. The gym and spa were wonderful, top equipment, mens and ladies steam rooms and dry saunas were free to use and they had a nice selection of facials, wraps, massage etc... The Bachus Restaurant was a bit gaudy, but the food and service was good. The waiters did a show during the meals which was fun. Our Room steward was just like having your mother dought on you hand and foot. All in all a very pleasant experience.

Pros: How openly accepting the crew and other guests were to us.

Cons: The overcrowding around and in the pool areas due to lack of other places to go outdoors.

George Town, Grand Cayman
The Seven Mile Beach was to die for, the cleanest, and one of the best beaches we have seen. The swimming was excellent. Pleanty of area to get lost from any crowds. Hell was just that, very interesting to see. The turtle farm was also informative and a nice place to go, we took a city tour and learned so much about the place, the Totuga Rum cake factory was delicious, the island was certainly a place one would like to live.
Don't Miss: If there was any we must have missed it.

Belize City, Belize
The Myan Ruins were interesting, the roads are terrible, one lane for two way traffic around hair pin turns was a bit hair raising. A very poor country, gasoline was $10.86 USD per gallon, WOW we thaought we had it bad in the states. The snorkeling was pretty good. Never felt safe outside of the tourist compound.
Don't Miss: The Ruins & the rainforest were good

Costa Maya (Mahahual), Mexico
Why the boat ever went there is beyond anyones comprehention. Nothing to see, little or no shopping, dirty garbage strewn beaches, the clean nice beach where the boat lands is off limits to anyone, like it was for show only or something. A few not so nice stores just where the ship docks and that is it!
Don't Miss: There was none.
Cozumel, Mexico
They are still rebuilding from the damage from last years hurricanes but all in all a nice spot. Lots of good shopping.
