Not for us!

Sail Date: August 13, 2008

Reviewed: 8 years ago

Traveled As: Family w/young children

Room Type: Balcony

The agent we booked with told us that Carnival had improved its service. That is simply not true. The ship was not very clean and the service was terrible. The activities were limited and not very interesting.

Pros: Getting away from the crowds on Grand Turk

Cons: The food and the service

Recommends Carnival Miracle? No.

Ship Quality
The ship was gaudy! There was a stale smell in many of the lounges. They permitted smoking in so many areas it was difficult to enjoy some of the activities. For instance, the sports bar is also the cigar bar. We missed many of the olympic events because we couldn't stand the smoke! The piano bar entertainment was good but we couldn't enjoy it because the room was filled with smokers!
Food and Dining
The shows were okay. As we indicated earlier we were unable to enjoy some of the other entertainment because of the cigarette and cigar smoke. This severly limited our entertainment options. We couldn't wait to get off the ship!
Service and Staff
The stewards provided excellent service. All other personnel seemed to be unmotivated.
Children's Programs
Our 10 year old thought the water slide was "lame." The arcade only had a few machines and was disappointing. The activities were too structured and did not provide the children with any flexibility. The staff seemed less than enthusiastic and were not particularly friendly. The schedule was odd and the facility was cramped and unattractive. They were vigilant about signing the children in and out of camp. The challenge with this is that in order for your 9-11 year old child to participate in some of the activities they had to be permitted to sign in and out on their own. We were not comfortable with it but had to permit it so that our child could participate.
Cabin / Stateroom
The room was fine. The location was terrible. We were directly below an outside deck and were awakened every morning at 7am by moving tables and chairs. The stewards were terrific!
San Juan, Puerto Rico
The flamenco show was entertaining.
Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas
The helmet dive was terrific! The skyride provides beautiful views.
Don't Miss: Hemet Dive
Grand Turk Island
Get away from the dock. It was a mob scene!
Don't Miss: Pillory Beach
