An outstanding cruise

We were delightfully surprised by the quality of this cruise. We have sailed with several of the bigger cruise lines and were realistic (we thought) that Carnival offers bang for the buck but is not a top rate experience. The Miracle is a newer, attractive ship (in typical Carnival gaudy decor) with plenty of deck space, service personnel and reasonably spacious cabins (we were Verandah deck, balcony). We found the dinner food and service to be truly superb. Each menu topped the next and even items that didn't sound particularly appealing were a pleasant surprise. Lunch buffets offered various cusine in multiple 'stations' and room service breakfasts were delivered timely with fresh pastry and hot coffee. Overall we found the level of entertainment offered by the ship in the main theatre was excellent, with one show by the dance and singing troupe to be absolutely first rate. This was our 10th cruise on various lines and we consider this to be one of the very best experiences - congrats to Carnival for getting it right. Our only negatives were that the pool band was way too loud for our tastes and the lounge entertainment was talented but played such variety that consistent sets for dancing just didn't happen.

Pros: Excellent food well beyond our expectation as experienced cruisers

Cons: Lounge music and pool band were too loud, little opportunity for dancing

Ship Quality
Food and Dining
A delightful surprise as we didn't expect the level of food quality and table service to be as it was. The menu choices were varied and the presentation and taste was excellent. This ship only offers one early and one late seating. We would have preferred a time more in-between, but this was not a big deal.
Cabin / Stateroom
Service and Staff
Stateroom stafff were attentive and thorough. Dining staff were excellent. Deck staff were plentiful and quick to deliver.
Entertainment
Cozumel, Mexico
Cozumel is still recovering from Hurricane Wilma.
Belize City, Belize
A new port for us and an interesting city. A lot of poverty but beautiful beaches and, we were told, some fun excursions into the rain forest.
George Town, Grand Cayman
Lots of interesting excursion choices. Beaches are close by and cost little to spend the day. Be sure to insist that your driver leave promptly as they tend to delay while they fill the bus. We found assertive insistence got us on the way quickly.
Costa Maya (Mahahual), Mexico
The quaint town and beach of Costa Maya was a very relaxing and pleasant experience. A mexican flea market and lounges right in the water on the beach were a treat. Lots of water activities available and a short distance from the ship.
Don't Miss: Don't waste your time with ship sponsored excursions or 'all inclusive' beach passes. Just grab a cab the 5 minutes to Costa Maya ($5 roundtrip) and have a great day on the beach.
