Review summary

This was our first family cruise and we all said we would do it again. This ship had something for everyone. We also had family photos taken which turned out amazing! Our photographer was awesome and helped us capture "us". Thanks, Carnival for a wonderful family trip!

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Faster to the Fun was so worth it and made embarkation a breeze!

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
I knew not to expect the buffet to be gourmet but it works best for our family for options - plenty of options for each person to find something they liked. The restaurant that was included was very good but portions are tiny most of the time. We are all in love with the pizza...incredible and usually had a line. The adult beverages were excellent!

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
Our boys (9 & 12) LOVED their respective kid clubs. They also enjoyed the sport court for basketball and soccer, the rope course and the water slides.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
LOVED getting to watch a movie on the big screen out by the pool - I would watch from 2 decks up where there weren't many people.

Children's Programs

5 out of 5
Our boys (9 & 12) LOVED their respective kid clubs. The 12-14 club had video games, scavenger hunts and our son made friends easily. The 9-11 club was often mixed with the younger club but our younger son still really enjoyed the video games, arts and crafts and playing games.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
All of the staff were so friendly and helpful. We're not ones who like our room touched daily so we just swapped out our towels a few times.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
The ship was so clean! There were staff working around the clock to keep the ship super clean.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
There was a great amount of storage space which made it fairly easy for 4 of us. The bed options worked well for a family of 4: husband and I in the king size, older son on the "couch" that was made into a bed and younger son on the bed that folds down from the ceiling. Exceeded our expectations for the beds being comfortable. Our balcony had 2 chairs and a little table...we only used the Thermal Suite access that came with the room once, but I'd use it so much more next time! Loved being on the spa level so there weren't as many cabins and thus not as many people.

Ship tip

The ship holds a lot of people so bring your zen to navigate and stand in lines.

Ports of call

Miami, Florida

4 out of 5
Start/end port...crazy busy but the staff make it as smooth as possible.

Half Moon Cay, Bahamas (Private Island)

5 out of 5
BEST port as it's Carnival's private island the beach is incredible and we had an amazing time enjoying the water. We did not do any excursions.

Amber Cove (Puerto Plata), Dominican Republic

4 out of 5
If we are in this port again, we either will not get off the ship or will only do so for an excursion. It's a tourist area of shops, no beach at the port so we just checked it out for an hour or so. We did not do any excursions.

Grand Turk Island

4 out of 5
There's a beach right off the port but it's super crowded (Carnival Mardi Gras got there before our ship), the sand isn't nice and smooth (lost of broken shells mixed in and we saw more beer bottle glass than we expected). The water was beautiful and we enjoyed our time on the beach and in the water. We did not do any excursions.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
The staff do a great job given soooo many people. We checked our luggage and it was very easy to get at the port.

I appreciated your review! I'll be on that ship in December. I'm so glad to hear a positive review. I think cruises are what you make it. And you made it work for you and your family. As I will do the same for me & my family.

The Carnival Magic is a great ship. We also like her sister ships the Breese and Dream. 🚢
