Review summary

This was a short cruise to get us to Platinum Status.

Embarkation

Embarkation was terrible. It took more than two hours from when the bus dropped us at the curb to get on the ship. We waited in four separate lines. The first was blocks long, outside, without any restroom facilities or water. Carnival blamed the wait on heightened security protocols but I think it was inexcusable. It was our WORST embarkation experience ever and we may never sail from NYC again, which is terrible because it is the closest port to our house.

Most food was mediocre. Even Guys Burgers were dried out and over cooked.

Onboard Activities

It was cold and windy on the sea days, rare for June, so we did not use the pools much. But I did try the orange drainpipe water slide and it was awesome. I also went to the gym one day, and it was quiet with plenty of equipment available. Treadmills were very nice.

Entertainment

We saw three shows on board, America Rocks, The love & marriage show and the Flick. All were quite good. The cruise director, Ryan roast was very good, energetic and interactive.

As platinum guests, were we off the ship and through security by 7:20 am! Great!

I sailed the Magic from norfolk. On board everything was good but embarkation was a disaster. While it's convenient to cruise close to home, the ports don't have the experience and logistics in place that the full time ports do. I think carnival relies too much on the port staff instead of sending an advance team to work out the kinks.
