Review summary

We have been on other cruise lines in the past and this was our first time on Carnival.  I didn't think the quality was what you get with some of the other cruise lines but it was a less expensive cruise. Service was good in the dining room but dress code was not enforced, so even though they say that no sleeveless shirts, athletic shorts or flip flops are allowed in the dining room, lots of people showed up that way and the dining room staff didn't say anything. Even on "elegant" nights, people were more casual than they should have been. If you want to eat casual, go to the buffet!

We also had some issue/confusion receiving our on board credit that Cheap Cruises promised us when we booked.  We received the on board credit from Carnival, as promised, but had to get Carnival's Guest Services desk to call Cheap Cruises during the trip to find out why our credit hadn't been applied to our account. That took a couple of days to resolve but we did finally receive it.

Other than those 2 things, we thought the cruise was nice, ship was clean (although we did start to smell something like sewage in the hallways, in our cabin, and on a few of the outside decks during the last 2 days of the trip, which was NOT pleasant), and the service overall was pretty good. We loved this itinerary due to the 3 days at sea, which is really the kind of relaxation and slow pace we came for but our shore excursions in Belize and Honduras were fun and we were glad we did those.

As with any cruise, getting on and getting off the ship means standing in long, winding lines of people for hours, so next time, we will definitely book Carnival's "Faster to the Fun" which is supposed to shorten those times getting on and off.

So, balancing out the good with the no-so-good, we rated this 3 stars.

We've cruised on the magic twice, with no major complaints. (Don't like the powdered eggs, but there are other options to choose from lol.) I agree with you on the dress code. Elegant night dress codes should be enforced. It really makes it a special event. I would like to try Royal - not bec I'm unhappy with carnival but just to try something new.

As well as Royal Caribbean, we like Princess

Thank you for your review. I don't believe that you should have swim wear or flip flops in the dining room. However, we are on vacation & capri's, dress shorts & sandles are fine. They take out tips for the dining room even if you don't use it. ☺
