Review summary

This was my first cruise. All things considered, I had a good experience and learned more about what I like don't like about cruising.

Embarkation

2 out of 5
I didn't know any better at the time, but embarkation was a mess. I felt like I started my vacation waiting in lines, which is different than other cruises I have since been on.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
By no means did I go hungry, but the food at the buffet and in the dining room really wasn't very good. It took a lot of convincing to get my wife to want to go on a different cruise.

BlueIguana Cantina

5 out of 5

Great breakfast tacos.

Diamonds Steakhouse

5 out of 5

This was an incredible prime steak. Easily the best food I ate on the boat.

Guy's Burger Joint

5 out of 5

Some of the very best food on the ship.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
Enjoyed the trivia and exploring the ship, but the organized activities that appealed to me were slim. In all honesty, my cruise companion got board as it seemed the primary activity on the ship was drinking or crowding into pools with hundreds of other people. Just not our cup of tea.

Entertainment

4 out of 5

Service and Staff

5 out of 5

Ship Quality

4 out of 5

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
I think this was the smallest/cheapest cabin on the ship. It was sufficient for our needs (sleeping and maybe watching a movie), but I'd recommend finding a different room. Booked this room because it was cheap (this was our first cruise and we were reluctant to spend much money).

Ports of call

Progreso (Merida), Mexico

Cozumel, Mexico

Galveston

Disembarkation

2 out of 5
I did the self-disembarkation and left early in the morning. Ended up having to wait in line for over an hour to clear customs.

Fair point Don. I was surprised/disappointed to see this review at the top of the news feed. The timing doesn't discredit my experience, but I hope others realize this experience was from several years ago. Many things could have changed since 2016.

I hardly think a review of a cruise in 2016 is very relevant today

Glad to hear you learned a lot about cruises!

@DaisyDoozie, thanks for the tips. We cruise on Harmony a couple years ago and absolutely loved it. One thing we learned then was the importance of booking all of our reservations ASAP.

@Curt34, I hope you have a great time on the ship. If I didn't make it clear in my review already, I partially attribute my mediocre experience to things I coukd have done differently (read reviews, better planning, etc.). Happy Cruising!

I see that your going on Quantum for your next cruise. If you like going to the main theater shows, be sure to book online before your cruise. I think they let you about 90 days ahead.

There's definitely a learning curve to cruising. The more we cruise, the more we love it because we have learned what works for us.
