Review summary

Overall, I really enjoyed our cruise onboard the Carnival Liberty. The staff -- it's like "Cheers," where everybody knows your name. Everyone we encountered was nice and hospitable. Some had a beacon for knowing if you were lost on the ship -- they recognized the "deer in headlights" look and would approach you with a helping hand. In fact, when I got lost in the gym and spa area, someone told me to always look for the green running man signs. I did that for the duration of the cruise. Helpful tips and top-notch customer service like that make a vacation memorable. We were very happy with Carnival -- the service, the price, the vacation. It was the whole package.  No frownie or angry emojis here!

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
We had THE BEST EXPERIENCE EVER on the first day of our cruise. My husband and I were sitting in the lobby off to the side when Jasmina (short, blond hair) and Arun approached us and asked if we would be interested in a chef's tasting. This was so much fun! We had inside access to the kitchens, met chef Maksym (he was very entertaining and so knowledgeable about food), and loved our preview of that night's menu. I hope this is something that happens often to guests because it really is memorable, and it's something we'll talk about for years to come.

Onboard Activities

More Harry Potter or pop culture trivia. "Star Wars," maybe? We enjoyed Bingo, the Hasbro gameshow and the live comedy. Props to Money Martin and Donkey the cruise director.

Entertainment

Children's Programs

We had 2 15-year-olds with us on our cruise, my daughter and her best friend. They had a blast during the voyage, but they did wish there were more entertainment options for kids their age. They frequented Club 02 and complimented Yuri and Chantelle. They plan to cruise again when they're older, but this is a missed opportunity. Invest in the teen program a little bit, and more parents with teens (who rule their world and their wallets) will invest in you.

Service and Staff

Twichell; Ronaldo; our excellent dinner service staff (Michael, Rashudo -- forgive me for not knowing the exact spelling, and the assistant server who kept our water glasses and our bread baskets full); Arun; and Jasmina.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
When I booked our cruise online, I assumed I would get a window view, but I was very surprised (and delighted!) to see we had a balcony as well. The view was amazing, beds comfy and clean stateroom. Our steward, Twichell, introduced himself the first day and was very hospitable and accommodating. There was another steward, Ronaldo, I believe (Filipino, we saw him June 15-17, usually vacuuming on deck 6). Every time we passed him by the hall, he greeted us by name and told us to have a good day. It's a wonderful feeling when that happens. Both deserve special mention. The only negative was on the last night -- there was a constant ticking sound, almost like a clock or Chinese water torture -- because the light above wasn't secure. We had to MacGyver it so we could get a good night's sleep. There actually were pieces of paper already fashioned on it, so I feel like previous guests had this issue, too. But that's very, very minor.

Ship tip

Do your homework BEFORE you get on the boat: find out what type of slots are on the ship, gambling tips, how to use your Sail & Sign card, how not to lose money on your Sail & Sign card (cash out!). I wanted to Google these things but couldn't use my phone. I would've spent more money gambling.

Ports of call

Port Canaveral, Florida

There is shark feeding at Cocoa Beach Surf Company twice a day on Mondays and Thursdays. The store, across from Ron Jon's, has a shark tank and a diver goes in and cleans it up and feeds the nurse sharks. It's cute to watch with a cup of coffee from Starbucks, and there's AC.

Nassau, Bahamas

This is super cheap, but we just hung out in the shade on the rocks instead of buying the umbrella and beach chairs at Cabbage Beach. Some of the islanders called us out, but some laughed with us. We didn't care, we had a great time! The view of the water is fabulous. Btw, the Bahamians say the F word A LOT out there, so if you have small children ...

lol I got lost in the gym area too--they took one look at me and KNEW I didn't belong! My expression was "what is all this stuff?" I was like a 5 year asking a crew member to help me get back home ...which was the lido deck...the bar and restaurants. LOL pretty sure everybody knew I was lost considering the first thing I did was ask "hey is there a bar in here?" My bad. 🙂

Oh good! Thank you for your review. It gets rough hearing the bad things. Yours made me smile and more excited about my cruise.
