Review summary

Carnival Liberty has a great layout.  Easy to find your way around. Aging but well cared for. And it goes really fast. We had a Spa deck balcony with 3 adults and a 4 year old bossy little granddaughter. No problems..plenty of room as long as we kept things picked up.

Staff was wonderful!!!  Victor, Catherine, as heads of the late seating Silver Dining room, Indira, and Junior our wonderful waiters went waaaay beyond the norm to care for us.  They dealt with our issues of having food allergies and a skittish 4 year old little girl with enthusiasm and grace. Our room steward Sari was kind and patient tho we assumed on her busy schedule many times.  Olga, in the Alchemy Bar made the very best Cosmos we have ever tasted and was a real sweetheart. We booked 5 shore excursions at the desk on ship.  The staff were terrific and right on with their advice.  We liked the Fun Bus with Nick and Andre on Barbados the best because they were fun and informative. Beach is best on Barbados we thought.  The St. Lucia tour was really lovely..It was a bus tour of the island, some historical houses, rum distillery (yum), and banana fields.  Dina, our lovely tour guide who made us appreciate the island.  On St. Kitt, we took a island tour and beach break.  More prosperous..real estate not crops here.  It was really great..tho the beaches on Barbados were better.  St. Kitt was really beautiful.  The St. Thomas tour was fine..we took the Sky Line.  Was very nice but couldn't see much because of the rain that day.  St. Martin was good..but seemed a bit grubbier and sleazier than the other islands. The people we met in St. Lucia, Barbados, St. Thomas, St. Kitt seemed down to earth, struggling, cheerful, hardworking, good people.  No begging anywhere. The exchange rate is about 2.6 to 1 US dollar which makes it good for them and us.

The driver in St. Martin was very very nice, but some of the locals were persistent with begging. Was beautiful anyway.  The restaurant on the beach included in the tour was terrific..staff was great there..except one..whom we mentioned to the driver...so he had us fill out a form, and Carnival moved him to a different job position.

The Airport Best Western in Kansas City, booked with before our

cruise was really good. Nice breakfast, nice clean rooms, prompt shuttle to the airport..only downer was they charge $6 per day to leave your car while you are gone.  First time ever paid that..but they say all airport motels in KC charge for extended parking.

All in all a great vacation.   and Carnival and Southwest combined to make a really really memorable vacation!!

We cannot praise Victor, Catherine, Indira, Junior enough. Really TERRIFIC!!!!! Vegetarian Indian Curry, White fish, Salmon and Crab cakes, soups, GF chocolate melting cake all very very good!!! Omelets very good. GF bread great. Guava juice great! Boiled eggs great..Coffee very good. Loved the selection of teas!!! Chamomile was great in the evening.

Onboard Activities

Not a lot of time for this with 5 excursions in 7 days. Found some nice gifts in shops.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
The live music was particularly nice. Blood Power was the Philippino rock band..Awesome!!! I think Dave was the fold singer in the lobby lounge...he was really good. Peter, Paul and Mary...etc. Nailed it. Shows..great dancing..the grand baby loved them! Singing in shows spotty.

Children's Programs

5 out of 5
Staff in Camp Carnival were great...just hardly any other kids there. But Grace loved the time she spent there.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Olga in the Alchemy Bar was great!!!! Staff in buffet was really great as our 4 year old would only eat bananas, watermelon and salami..no kidding...Even when closed..if we asked them for these items, they went crazy finding those foods for her. So kind, and cheerful!! Room service very quick and efficient!!! All staff we dealt with were very real nice people.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Design was very good. Huge ship...could go from one end to the other quickly. Very clean. No complaints.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Good use of space. We had 3 adults and 1 4 year old with lots of stuff. We fit in fine. Can't wait to go again. Door kept sliding open on night we were going to Barbados. Didn't mind..loved sound of wind and water. Everything worked well.

Ship tip

If you want to eat breakfast at the buffet, go before 9am to avoid lines. Altho they weren't too bad later. Omelet bar is better than the omelet at the buffet. Alchemy drinks are best on ship. Better than in lobby bar. Be careful complaining about staff as they take it very very seriously.

Had a great driver and tour guide!! Very nice beach and restaurant included. Good deal. Only problem was Gregory the manager was very rude. Driver knew him and said he was a good guy but had problem with dealing with a lot..had us fill out form and Carnival moved him to different job..not fired (glad)..just moved. He was really rude. Gave my beach chair away to another customer. Screamed at my husband...not good. Carnival took care of it in a good way. Did not want him to lose his job..just be nicer. Lots of really poor people, and rich people living next to each other...common people seemed stressed and some angry. Would not want to stay here.

We have just booked a spa deck balcony cabin on Carnival Liberty sailing April 28th. Did you use the spa for showers? We have 4 in the cabin and I've heard guests can use the showers, sauna, and steam room at no charge.
