Tina, the poster never said that the child was Autistic, only that they were Mentally Handicapped. There are many forms of Mental Disability and as sad as it is, and as great as the intentions were to take them on this cruise, ANY number of things in daily life can upset them. If this was a situation that was like when the Carnival Triumph lost all power and were drifting at sea some time ago, I could see the anger because they would have been cooped up on the ship. But in this case, the ship was docked and they were able to get on and off the ship and were provided with food and drink. I feel it may have been the anger and/or worry that the mom was displaying that may have caused the child to react the way they did. People with Mental disabilities tend to react to their surroundings. If the surroundings are upsetting, then their reaction is the same.

OMG....poor you. Being stuck on a Caribbean Island, it must have been Honorable, a living nightmare with no A/C, No Food, no toilets and no place to stay..... OH HANG ON you had free lodging, free food on the ship, A/C and all ship hotel services running.
You were not forced to stay on the ship, they would have flown you home for free. So you were not stuck there, it was your free will to stay and use the ship as a free hotel, restaurant and entertainment for the 4 days.
I'm sorry that your cruise did not go as planned but it still sounds like a nice free vacation to me.
I thought CCL handled this above and beyond the call of duty. I think they handled it 1st class. They refunded you 100% of the cruise, Gave you $ 150.00 OBC, % off your next cruise, set up a hotel banquet room with drinks, snacks and A/C until you were able to return to the ship. They gave you the option of being flown home or staying out the week and using the ship as a floating resort for free.
Just be thankful that nobody was injured, it happened in port and CCL took care of you 1st rate. You run a risk every day and everywhere you go, this matter was taken care off excellent by CCL.

You have to chalk it up to @$it happens!! We stayed at our timeshare resort in Aruba some years ago and even though Aruba is not in the Hurricane belt, it got the outskirts of Hurricane Felix. We lost power for 12 hours yet we all (the members of the timeshare) went to the resorts beach where they were BBQing the food from the restaurant in the hopes of using it "at no charge". My points, things happen EVERYWHERE that can cause issues on your vacation and we made the best of a bad situation. We had a blast. Would we stay there again? No question!!! See where I'm going here......?
