Sail Date: July 17, 2010
Ship: Carnival Liberty
Cabin Type: Inside
Traveled As: Large Group

carnival offered a very low price and better yet, gave me a sizeable onboard credit; they are a budget cruiseline with staff that try to be good but aren't always effective; overall an ok experience but once you travel on other brands, you'll notice a clear deficit in many aspects of the cruising experience

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
specialty restaurant not worth $60 for two; buffets were ok; most meat selections were tasty but improperly butchered; main dining room had good service

Entertainment

3 out of 5
excursions overpriced but varied in theme; sea dyas had insufficient activities if you didn't want to remain inebriated all day

Service and Staff

3 out of 5
most hotel personnel were efficient and friendly, but many whose minds were in the right place, but didn't deliver; front desk staff were rude on both occasions that i had to go there; embarkation and disembarkation was speedy and well orchestrated

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
mostly clean but some things noticeable, such as garbage on pool deck that was there for way too long b4 being attended to; layout ok but confusing "middle dining room"; a lot of space spent on kids activities; not enough hand sanitizer stations

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
once again, you get what you pay for - inside cabin was small but sufficient - good closet space and nooks and crannies for small items & souvenirs; shampoo dispenser in shower was good idea and many free toiletries
3 out of 5
get a private taxi to take you around and bargain for everything since all is clearly negotiable; the main attraction is climbing the waterfall which i have done 3+ times (remember to bring water shoes or diving booties)
Don't Miss: avoid shady characters that continually offer you drugs - yes for real - this trip i was propositioned 3 times including once at the hard rock cafe
3 out of 5
been there many times so just rented a cheap car ($55 for a SMART car)and drove around for about 6 hours, stopping to admire stuff, go to beach and eat lunch
Don't Miss: if first timer, take ferry to the mainland to see TULUM
5 out of 5
also been here many times - just shopped for stuff i dont need and ate lunch; this is a higher class island filled with banks and jewelry stores
Don't Miss: stingrays & turtle farms; visit to the town named "HELL"

Pros: price

Cons: nothing terribly amiss but carnival is the mcdonalds of the cruise industry
