Cruise Exceeded My Expectations

Sail Date: March 23, 2008

Reviewed: 6 years ago

Traveled As: Family (young children)

Room Type: Oceanview

The ship is clean, well-organized, and the staff is friendly and helpful. The amount of activities was truly overwhelming and we were never at a loss for things to do. The children had an excellent time and camp carnival really delivered.

Pros: Children's Program, Wide Amount of Entertainment

Cons: Pushy Carnival Photographers, Tendering System

Recommends Carnival Liberty? Yes!

Key West, Florida
The children really enjoyed the Mel Fisher Treasure Hunter Museum and Fort Zachary Taylor. In fact, the Fort, which is a well-managed state park, has great and spooky ruins (moat, casemates, cannons, etc.) and beautiful white sand beach. It is the best kept secret on Key West as most guide books try to direct you to other beaches which tend to be full of homeless weirdos and trash. Stay away from tourist areas near Duval Street. It's tacky and bothersome.
Don't Miss: Fort Zachary Taylor
Ocho Rios, Jamaica
Dunn's River Falls is simply not to be missed. You have to climb the falls. However, people that are not in good shape or with very small children should NOT attempt. By not in good shape I mean the typical overweight American. We also enjoyed Coyaba Gardens and the Fern Gully. If you get back to the port in time, pay the $3.00 fee and go to the municipal beach next to Island Village Shopping. It's a nice beach and safe with some concessions. Again, the "fabulous duty free" shopping experience is nothing but hype.
Don't Miss: Dunn's River Falls.
George Town, Grand Cayman
The whole family loved the Boatswain's Beach turtle sanctuary. My children got to pick up and pet a variety of turtles. It is worth the admission, but you only need the two part pass, not the four part, which is a waste. On the way back from the turtle farm, stop at the beach opposite Courtyard by Marriott. The beach is safe and pretty here, and you can order food from the Marriott's beachside cabana bar. Unfortunately, stingray city was closed during our trip due to high winds. Don't fall for the "fabulous duty free shopping" pitch. It's a lie. You will not save money, except perhaps on booze and Cuban cigars.
Don't Miss: Boatswain's Beach/Turtle Farm
