Great Cruise

Sail Date: December 06, 2008

Traveled As: Singles/Friends

Room Type: Inside

This was my second cruise on Carnival (the first was on the Destiny). The two ships are pretty similar in terms of layout. I would have liked to see a fourth stop on the itinerary, and would have liked to have spent more time in Grand Cayman. But otherwise, this was a very nice cruise that I would highly recommend to anyone. The staff was fairly friendly (especially our steward, waiters in the formal dining room, and our cocktail waitress at the dance club). The food was good (nothing out-of-this-world amazing, but good variety and good quality). The itinerary was nice (again, would have liked one more stop and more time at Grand Cayman, but generally I think the itinerary was nice). And the ship was very clean. Overall, we had a really great cruise!!!

Pros: The excursions we selected were great!

Cons: The food was good, but pretty standard cruise fare. Only other complaint was that the hot tubs closed earlier than I'd like...

Recommends Carnival Liberty? Yes!

Food and Dining
A lot of the chicken and beef was pretty dry. And some of the desserts were mediocre. But the variety was nice, and a handful of dishes were particularly memorable (Chocolate Melting Cake!!!!).
Service and Staff
The staffers who we had ongoing contact with (our steward, our waiters, and a waitress at the nightclub) were great and took the time to get to know our names, which was really wonderful. I really miss seeing their smiling faces each day. Having said that, a lot of the other staffers (on the buffet lines, for example) seemed to be going through the motions. Bottom line, there were some major stand outs, but most employees delivered above-average service.
Entertainment
Ship Quality
Cabin / Stateroom
The room was a little cramped, but that's always the case on a cruise.
Cozumel, Mexico
We took an excursion called "Caverns by Jeep & Beach Combo" that was nice. Swimming in the caves was a truly memorable experience, and something that was a little off the beaten path from most generic excursions. Our only complaint was that we would have liked a bit more time on the beach (and that the boat ride to Playa del Carmen took a little longer than expected).
Don't Miss: Swimming in the caves on Playa del Carmen was nice, also a good port for shopping
Ocho Rios, Jamaica
We absolutely loved Dunn's River Falls. We chose the excursion called "Dunn's River Falls and Dolphin Cove" or something like that. Dolphin Cove was great if you're not looking to swim or spend time on the beach. That's because there really is no beach (and what they do have is very rocky and almost impossible to walk on or swim at without sandals or water shoes. However, if you're not a beach person, there's plenty to see and do, from watching a fairly run-of-the-mill dolphin show, to seeing a shark feeding, to getting a photo with a giant iguana on the "jungle trail."
Don't Miss: Dunn's River Falls!
George Town, Grand Cayman
This is a beautiful port. Swimming with the stingrays is a fantastic excursion! We took the one called something like "Stingray Sandbar and Rum Point Beach." Again, our only complaint was that we would have liked more time at Rum Point Beach (and that the prices to rent a kayak were a tad high, especially considering we only used it for about 15 minutes).
Don't Miss: Swimming with the stingrays!!!
