A disappointing cruise

Review SummaryThis was our 17th cruise and our 5th Carnival Cruise. Embarkation was a disaster. One hour to register and one hour to get your picture taken for your Sign and Sail Card. The online pre-registration which states that if you pre-register you can go to the "Fun Pass" line is a joke. There is no "Fun Pass" line at the New York City terminal.
We have always enjoyed Carnival and have thought that they had the best food until we went on this cruise. Breaklfast and Lunch on the Lido deck is the same every day with a few exceptions. A few of our dinners in Truffles dining room were very disappointing but they did get better toward the end of the cruise. The service in the dining room was very slow. Dirty dishes stayed on the table in front of us until the next course and were only removed when the next course was put in front of us. Proper ettiquete is to serve women first, this did not happen. There were twelve of us and some of the 12 were done eating and I still did not have my entree! You could not find a place to sit down at lunch and breakfast on Lido deck because dirty dishes were not removed from the tables. The rear deck outside of the Lido had dirty dishes on the tables for hours. We had to remove the dishes ourselves or sit and look at them for hours. We only saw our cabin steward twice during the entire eight days. The cabin was nice and big but not as clean as I would have expected.
While we were eating dinner, you could smell the smoke from the Oddessy Lounge which is right outside of Truffles dining room Why would they put a cigar and smoking lounge right next to the dining room? We were in some rough weather but there was very little movement of the ship. Also, the decor of the ship is overdone. Overall, we were disappointed in this cruise that we had really looked forward to. We will reconsider if we ever go on Carnival again. We have a Carnival cruise booked in November but we might decide to cancel and go on another line. They own Princess and they should take a few lessons from them on embarkation and disembarkation. They do allow you to disembark with your own luggage, which I highly recommend. You do not have to put your luggage out the night before and you can get right off if you are willing to carry your own luggage which many people choose to do.
Pros: Eight day cruise
Cons: Ship was dirty
