Review summary

The cruise was an overall enjoyable experience. The food and entertainment onboard was a bit disappointing as well as Catalina. However the activities on Ensenada saved the entire trip. For two people to enjoy 3 activities we $157 which was reasonable for a private vehicle and tour guide.

Boarding the ship was very easy and straightforward

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

2 out of 5
The entertainment options were very limited for guests that didn't want to drink or gamble all day. The food quality was poor and often non prepared well. Not up to the quality of a normal 2 star buffet. The deli and taco areas were very good and well done. If the cruise can update their food choices and quality to match the deli and taco bar the food would be great.

Food was poor quality and no different than the buffet

Grand Buffet

3 out of 5

Food was poor quality and not well prepared. The sandwich deli and taco bar is a much better option.

Sandwiches were great! I ate here most of the trip

Onboard Activities

2 out of 5
Very very limited amount of activity options for non drinking or gambling guests. The activities that were available often all happened at the same time, leaving large chunks of the day with nothing to do. Comedians were good and the Battle of the Sexes show was fun to watch.

Spa Carnival

Staff were friendly, knowledgable and highly educated in their field

The shows that were available were well done and enjoyable.

Children's Programs

Didn't have children

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
The staff work extremely hard to make every guests experience memorable and enjoyable. I was surprised to find out that they work every day with no off days, often 16 hours a day for 8-10 month contracts. They were willing to discuss where they were from and always greeted you while you were walking around the ship.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
Clean and well kept

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
The room was small which was expected with clean bedding and towels. The only issue was the drain for the shower had a sewage odor and would make a loud bubbling sound anytime another passenger near by would use the resources. Luckily I didn't spend much time in the cabin.

Ship tip

Dont waste money on a window or suite.

Catalina Island, California

Not much to do in Catalina if you don't get to enjoy water activities or go golfing. Scuba was affordable but weather wasnt cooperating for my trip. A golf cart to explore the island was $50 an hour with an equal deposit. A bicycle was $20 an hour with deposit.

Ensenada, Mexico

**Read to end for detailed description ** Great activites in Ensenada. Buy your packages OFF the ship, Carnival charges a much larger fee. When you get off the boat there is an information booth near buses, ask them where to purchase activities and they will point you in the right direction. Most places accept US dollar for currency but you will be given pesos in change. The exchange rate is 18 pesos to 1 US dollar as of 5/6/19. The ziplining was well worth the $57 for 5 different zip lines. The La Boufadora or Blow Hole was fun to watch and the surrounding souvenir shops were very affordable. Do not take first price! I was able to get churros from a vendor reduced from $7 to $2. Tshirts 3 for $10, custom painted sea shells for $3-$7. Pharmacy medications without prescription prices. Lastly the Petting zoo. For $10 it wasnt a bad price. You were able to see lions, tigers and Jaguars from 2 month to adult animals. The petting of the cats was EXTRA. The second part of the petting zoo you were able to pet pigs, ducks, donkeys, turtles, chickens, goats, a pony, and peacocks. IMPORTANT If you purchase 3 activities the coordinator will try to match you with others doing the same because you are put in a private car with your guide. We sat waiting for 30 minutes for another group to join us which never happened. Do not waste your time and threaten to get a refund if they dont get you a ride in 10 minutes. We did this and were in a car 30 seconds later. The guide spoke English very well, kept us in safe areas and was willing to stop for food and drink throughout the day. They only get paid $6 a day so if they treat you well, please reward them.
