This was the second time I have taken this cruise. However, this time around, I was not very pleased with the service and the ship. I was a bit disappointed with the lack of things to do on the ship. One red flag to beware of is that Carnival now charges you to use the parking terraces in Long Beach at $17 a day! You would think that parking would be free considering you are going on their ship. They didn't do this 2 years ago on my last cruise. In California, it's way too cold to use the non-heated pool. The hot tub is also very small and constantly filled with drunks that will stay in for hours not giving other passengers a turn. On the day at sea, there really is nothing to do durung the day. Way to cold and windy to golf. It is so windy up on Lido and the higher decks, that people are just cramming in to eat at the buffet because there is nothing else to do. The comedians at night are great, but they don't start until 7 pm. If your stuck with the late dining, your out of luck and miss the shows. Carnival needs to beef up the entertainment and have more to do on the ship. Instead, they focus their efforts in taking pictures of you 24/7 to get you to fork out another $300 in pictures. The Arcade for kids is a $1 per game and is worse then the casino!
Aside from the ship, the ports in Catalina and Ensenada were great and I would highly recommend the beach resort tour in Ensenada. Just make sure you bring extra cash and something to do on the day at sea.
