5 Night Western Caribbean (Tampa Roundtrip) Sail Date: November 03, 2008 Ship: Carnival Inspiration Cabin Type: Oceanview Traveled As: Large Group Reviewed: 9 years ago
The ship was recently refurbished and was very attractive. The staterooms were great. Our room steward and the cruise director were very nice. The shows and classes were excellent. Good experience.
Food and Dining

The food variety and quality was average for a cruise ship. It was wonderful having 24-hour pizza, ice cream, and beverages. The buffet areas were well-stocked and offered the "usuals" as well as daily specialties: Italian, French, Caribbean, American cuisine. The separate areas for specialty food, salad, beverage, pizza, deli sandwiches, and dessert was a good idea. Dining room service was also available most days for breakfast and lunch as well as the usual dinner experience.

I thought the shows were excellent! Very entertaining and polished. The classes offered were fun and interesting. I'd like to see even more of those!
Service and Staff

Overall, the staff was very friendly and willing to help. Our room steward and the cruise director were especially fine. The cruise director made everyone feel special at the Talent Show, even though the "talent" was unevenly matched. Each "act" was unique and all were very good. The director made every participant "special" but not "more special" than the others. Our dining room staff was friendly but not up to par with other wait staff on this cruise and as I recalled from a former cruise. They meant well but were not as polished and efficient as they are expected to be. It became a major disappointment of the trip.

The ship quality was fine, although things tended to get sloppy on debarkation day!
Cabin / Stateroom

The room was large enough to accommodate our needs and was a good size for a cruise ship. Beds were comfortable and the shower was great!
Access to Cozumel and shopping was excellent! We could walk directly from the ship to a huge variety of shops. The "recommended" jewelry stores had good quality items, but the obvious "commission" for sales was a disappointment. It was great fun walking around the area and stopping for a drink. Some members of our party hired a cab for a private tour around the city. They enjoyed it immensely. The driver stopped at the beach and waited for them, then continued on the local tour. I was pleased to be free to wander without fear of getting lost or overly tired. It was a very lovely, relaxing time.
Since the weather was not the best, we took "The Best of Grand Cayman" bus tour around the island. What a waste of time and money! It was valuable in that we saw the entire island --- and knew we'd never want to go there again! The rum store and the stop in Hell were definitely tourist traps and gimmicks. Shopping at the dock area was ok, but a waste.
Don't Miss: The chickens snacking on french fries in front of the Kentucky Fried Chicken shop! A real photo op!
