Good Value Cruise

Sail Date: October 01, 2007

Traveled As: Couple

Room Type: Inside

Our 3rd cruise & first on Carnival. Had some concerns regarding the whole "Fun Ships" persona with Carnival, but the entire cruise exceded my (rather conservative) expectations and was overall a very pleasant experience, though I would likely return to Royal Caribbean if I had the choice of cruise lines. As for the ports of call, Grand Cayman was fun. (You've GOT to take one of the Stingray City excursions!!!) Calica was the pits!!! The dock area is literally in a mining site 10 miles from Playa del Carmen. The excursion busses or taxis pick you up at dockside then take you through the mining site out to the highway and then, on to Playa, Cancun or Tulum. I would not take another cruise with Calica as a port of call.

Pros: Stingray City

Cons: Port of Calica

Recommends Carnival Inspiration? Yes!

Ship Quality
Very strange deck plan/deck designation system. Just getting used to the "traffic patterns" as cruise ended. Lido (pool) deck was fine with plenty of lounging space, but sunbathing deck overlooking Lido deck was lined with lifeboats that both obstructed your view & any sea breezes.
Food and Dining
Main dining room food was just OK. Smallish portions, sometimes not cooked to customer's request. Most nights dining room was at half (or less) capacity. seemed many passengers preferred the alternate choice of the casual/buffet dining area where there were 2-3 different themed menus each night (Indian, Mexican, Italian, etc.) and helping sixe was left to the diner's appetite. 24 hour pizza & ice cream was always popular.
Service and Staff
Average about says it all. No better, no worse.
Cabin / Stateroom
ship's 2nd cruise out after month long drydock session. Rooms had all new carpet, refurbished bathrooms, etc. Nice size, very comfortable.
Stage shows were excellent. great sets, many costume changes & well choreographed & energetic dancers. Magician & comedian were both well worth the time spent & the "adult" comedy show had the entire room howling. Shipboard entertainment a pleasant surprise. Other activities/shows that were dependent on passenger participation were generally above average and, as usual, at the mercy of those participating.
Children's Programs
2200+ passengers, 206 children on board & never once did I see the kids an issue with being a menace to their parents or an intrusion to other passengers. Only real place they were even visible was aat the aft deck water park 9 (which was part of the ships recent renovation...a great addition). NICE JOB CARNIVAL!!!
