Wife and I have cruised at least 12 times and this is the first time on Carnival.  I always was reluctant because of the handle of "Party ship".  We thought we would try it anyways.  The first day was a disaster.  We went down to the anytime dinning and found a mob there.  There were people coming from two directions meeting at the entrance.  The mob was pushing and shoving to get in, and some were yelling at people to stop cutting line.  There was yelling and name calling which was very repulsive to the older and meeker passengers.  A tiny young staff lady was trying to organize the entrance  and looking over her shoulder to the Mater D for help but he was busy on the codmputer and gave her no help.  We finally got seated and were eating salad when my wife found a small spider in her salad which we brought to the attention of the head floor manager.   Then when we were served Lasagna, it was cold and had to be returned.  After some heated discussion with the Matre D, we switched to standard dinning. This was only the first night.

We found that since the staff got automatic tipping put on the traveler's bill,  They were not attentive to people's requests or needs.  I have always been told that tips stands for  "To Insure Proper Service Service".  There is no need to give special attention or go out of the way for proper service.  It just allows the Cruise lines to not pay hospitality staff fair wages, and staff to only mind their own business and not go out of their way to please.

One last thing.  The room intercom was not working and we did not hear debarking instructions at the Keys. Most ports all you need is your cabin card with you. We got off the ship without driver's license and if we did not see a sign, we would not have been able to return to ship without a big problem.  Luckily we saw the sign and went back on the ship.
