Review summary

The cruise was fine and I had no issues with Carnival, but that was my first and last time cruising out of New Orleans. As I stated before, it was dirty, smelly and most importantly, the people were not at all friendly. If you want tourists to come visit and spend their hard earned dollars, you should treat them well.

Embarkation

Navigation from the hotel to the cruise terminal was a challenge as there was construction near the terminal. This caused my GPS to try and take me down a street that was closed. I had to circle around three times before I could figure out how to get to the terminal. Once we got to the ticket booth to pay, the person taking the money was rude. She was talking to another employee the whole time and ignored my questions. Once we were parked and in the terminal, the rest went fine. We had Faster to the Fun so we got right thru and to our room within 15 minutes.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
As usual, the food was good and there were no issues. My favorite dining option is Guy's Burger Joint!

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
When we go on a cruise, we use this time to relax, so we don't do much more than lay out by the pool. As usual, if you want a good lounger by the pool, you have to get there early or go later in the afternoon. My wife also had a massage which she loved!

Entertainment

3 out of 5
Entertainment was just Ok. I think Carnival needs to come up with some different shows. If you cruise frequently, you will see the same shows over and over again.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Everyone-especially our room steward was great! We were taken care of everywhere we went.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
The Carnival Glory is starting to show it's age. I believe it's due for an overhaul. Although I didn't see anything in disrepair, everything just looks tired and well used.

Cabin / Stateroom

Our room was clean and comfortable, but it could use some updates.

Ports of call

New Orleans, Louisiana

We arrived in New Orleans a day early. We went out on our own and done some sightseeing. This was our first time to New Orleans. Most places we went to downtown, were dirty and smelly. But most of all, almost everyone we encountered was very rude and not friendly at all.

Montego Bay, Jamaica

Our shore excursion was to the Grand Palladium Resort. It's an all inclusive resort on the beach. The bus ride was approximately 45 minutes. We utilized the massive pool, walked along the beach, checked out some shops, ate at the Jerk Hut and had a few drinks from one of the outdoor bars. Most everyone was nice and helpful. We actually went on this excursion because we were considering going here on vacation next year.

George Town, Grand Cayman

We did one short excursion, it was the Nautilus Undersea Adventure. It was very hot on this day and the air conditioning wasn't working well so this excursion wasn't as enjoyable as it could have been. We did see a couple ship wrecks and lots of fish! After this, we just walked around the shopping district and shopped. We really enjoyed our day.

Cozumel, Mexico

Our excursion was to Passion Island. This is an all inclusive excursion with food and drinks included. The boat ride was approximately 30 minutes and was very enjoyable. This was the second time we done this excursion. The food and drinks were good, the staff was very helpful and friendly. It was a nice relaxing time on the beach!

Disembarkation

Getting off the ship was fine. We cleared customs and had our luggage brought to the loading area. My wife stayed with our luggage while I went to the 5th level and got our car. When I pulled up to load our luggage, a New Orleans Port Police Officer stopped me from getting out of my car and asked what I was doing. I told him I was going over to get my wife and luggage. He asked me to show him my wife. I pointed over to the hundreds of people and said she is in that crowd. He told me that unless I could see her, that I had to leave, circle around and then if I saw her, I could stop and load up. After several minutes of back and forth with this officer, he finally told me I had one minute to get our luggage. He said if I wasn't loaded within a minute, he would have the car towed. I have never been treated and talked to by any law enforcement officers like that before.
