Sail Date: December 01, 2012 Cabin Type: Balcony Traveled As: Family (young children) Reviewed: 4 years ago
This was our 5th Carnival cruise and our 2nd on the Glory\, or as they called it\, the Funship 2.0. They made a big deal about how they had improved it\, and I agree that the decor was much nicer. They added restaurants and several more bars. It seems like their 2.0 version has fewer things for families and focuses more on getting people into the bars and casinos to spend money. Even the kids' program closed several times for fee-based activities.
We were very disappointed in our most recent experience on the Glory. We had a broken door leading out the the balcony\, which blew open several times in the middle of the night for several nights until maintenance could fix it...3 days later. There was also a stomach virus going around the ship. We all spent one day puking--it wasn't until day 6 of a 7 day cruise that the captain advised everyone to wash their hands to prevent people from catching it. Would have been nice to know a little earlier!
Food and Dining

The dining room was excellent\, with nice variety and fantastic service. The Guy Fieri burger place was amazing! Highlight of the trip. That said\, the buffet was really awful. We have sailed the Glory before and couldn't believe first trip how great even the buffet was. That is no longer the case. Thankfully\, with the ship being redone recently\, several new eateries were added\, including the burger place\, gourmet pizza\, and a deli counter. Don't wait in line for the wretched buffet food. They used to have a spectacular chocolate buffet--one so good it really was worth writing home about! This time\, it was really not good. Less variety and less flavor.

The comedy club idea is good in theory. Some of their comedians were funny. A couple were just awful. Even the family-friendly shows have become too hyper sexual. Seriously. We went to their family version of Latin Nights\, which is a musical review. My kids were really not impressed. We all thought the music was mediocre and the dancing was over the top\, and not in a good way.

Since this is our 5th Carnival cruise\, we were familiar with their program and loved it. It seemed like this time around\, they got rid of some of their free play time and replaced it with a build-a-bear type\, fee-based activity.
Service and Staff

The staff is always friendly and helpful. It did take maintenance several visits to fix our door\, which kept blowing open in the middle of the night\, which is why I rated them good and not excellent. I shouldn't have to wake up every night for 3 nights to close a door that won't stay locked and rolls open with bigger waves.

I would say average\, but the fact that we got so sick because of a virus running around and not being told until the day before we got off makes me think they need to focus a little more on sanitizing and warning passengers when several people show signs of illness.
Cabin / Stateroom

Small\, but the balcony was very nice. The rooms didn't look like they got much of an upgrade since we last sailed on the Glory. Nice\, clean\, and well-kept thanks to a good room steward. Just showing signs of age and wear.
Pros: dining room\, enjoyable shore excursions\, water slide
Cons: entertainment stinks\, food has gone down hill
