Sail Date: May 15, 2011 Ship: Carnival Glory Cabin Type: Inside Traveled As: Large Group Reviewed: 7 years ago
Overall, the ship was nice; not the best I have seen but still nice. It was like Carnival could not decide whether to make the ship look elegant or "Vegas" and it got caught at some weird awkward fusion of the two. The crew was incredibly courteous but in many cases, the knowledge of the English language was limited, which is understandable in an international crew, but in some cases they were almost unintelligible. Also, though the food was very nice, it also, was not quite on par with other lines.
Food and Dining

Was not fond of the dining room decor. Flashing lights and color changing panels are not my idea of a formal dining room. The late dining time, which had been my preference on other cruise lines, lasted far too long on the Glory, leaving no time to do anything afterwards. Many nights, we did not leave the dining room until after 10:30pm, having arrived at 8:15.

It seemed there were the same activities to be seen every port night. Either Adult comedy or close up magic (which we attended and the performer either never showed up or showed up very late.) Also, all of the spa "secrets" for detoxing and losing weight were not secrets at all, they were sales pitches.
Service and Staff

Ship staff was wonderful. The only thing I might comment on was the dining room staff. While great, again, the service was not quite on par with other cruise lines. ex. The bread basket only coming around once and well well before dinner was served. Having the bread come around a few times throughout the meal helps break up the waiting time of being in the dining room which was about an hour and a half each dinner. Could have been more efficient.

Many of the public restrooms near the pools smelled like urine and the stalls were nearly too small to sit down in. The gym also left a lot to be desired with old equipment and cramped quarters. Great steam room and saunas, though the water in the spa whirlpool was tepid at best.
Cabin / Stateroom

Decent size for an interior stateroom, but the walls were incredibly thin and there was banging and yelling surrounding us the entire night which made sleeping very difficult. My parents room, however, had temperature issues and was very warm compared to our other staterooms. The top beds are also extremely uncomfortable. On a side note, the room steward did a great job and even laid down two comforters on the foldaway bed in an attempt to make it more comfortable.
