Wow! . . .were my wife and I pleasantly surprised at the vacation experience we had on our 8 Day Carnival Freedom cruise to the Western Caribbean. Even though the ship was well over the posted capacity for this Thanksgiving break cruise (and a ton of kids), the open spaces, cleanliness, service and food selections were beyond what we could have imagined. Though the professional reviewers may have been right about the decor and color selection (a bit dark), the ship, and it's crew are top notch. Obviously this is a Carnival ship and not the Queen Mary, however, the service presented and the food were excellent. We were most amazed by the lack of lines, availability of deck chairs and the simple fact that we never felt crowded even on the holiday sailing. The cleanliness of the ship was very much appreciated as well. Probably the best addition to the Freedom and Carnival overall is the 'Serenity' adult-only area. Though this area could fill quickly on sea days, the added touches and lack of kids made it a fantastic retreat. They even offered cold lunch selections at the Serenity bar. Simply put, they exceeded our expectations and will have me looking at Carnival again in the future.

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
Great food (not that I am a 5 Star chef), but being a normal middle-class family we were never disappointed. We even tried the steak house and found it exceptional.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
Sense our last Carnival cruise 5 years ago things have improved. The size of the entertainment staff, dancers, comednnas and musicians have seemed to grow and provided a lot more to the shows and options.

Children's Programs

5 out of 5
Everyone with kids we talked to raved about the experience.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
We never had a bad experience. People were smiling and seemed to be handling a very tough job with a positive attitude.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Ship layout is just like the rest of the ship's its class (liberty, ect . . ). Well done for a big ship with many options and openness. The public areas are a bit dark, and the wall colorings in the faux wood style are weird to say the least. The cleanliness of the ship however is amazing. The service in particular on the lido deck at the buffet was fantastic, tables were cleared and the buffet was spotless at every point in the day.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Large like all Carnival rooms. The steward and the rest of the staff were great and provided a clean room twice a day.

Pros: Serenity Area and the Lack of Lines

Cons: Limited Room Service Selection

Recommends Carnival Freedom? Yes!
