We are a family of four - mum, dad, a 7 year old boy and 4 year old boy. We sailed on the carnival freedom and it was perfect for our needs.
The standards of cleanliness on the boat were outstanding, not once did i come across any mess or dirt - very pleased. Our room was always immaculately made up and clean to the uptmost standards. Our room was also a very reasonable size, we had sailed with princess cruises before and that was very small and cramped and on this cruise we had ample room for our needs. The tv - which is important to little boys and tired mums/dads - was good too providing a good variety of shows and interest for the family as a whole. I recommend getting a state room with a window so the kids can watch the sea going by on a daily basis - very entertaining for them. We used Camp Carnival and our 7 year old loved it - our 4 year old is still a little shy but went and the staff were marvellous with the boys. They both had a blast and thoroughly enjoyed the kids club, there was a great kids room, discos for the relevant age groups, golf, water wars, face painting, treasure hunts and much more. The facilities on the ship overall were top notch, a great pool, slide, entertainment of all sorts and so on, i cannot say enough. The one down side for me personally, was that the food wasnt as good as it could be. Room service food arrived promptly but cold; assigned dinner food was okay but steaks arrived dry, crab cakes little, sauces were lacking, lasagne was overpowering; the buffet area was good but repetitive and the specialist areas - well i'm British and the fish and chips were cold and small - not good. However, we did not starve and did not feel we needed to complain. Another negative, there was areas for smokers but some of these areas were open areas on the lido and i did not appreciate having to walk through a waft of heavy duty smoke with my children to find this out - not good carnival. Overall - i would definitely go again any day and twice on sundays!! Staff were amazing and so hard working. My kids loved it and so as such, did my husband and I.

Food and Dining

Often cold, or dry or completely overreached by the staff who prepared it. Carnival needs to improve this element. However, we did not starve. :)

Service and Staff

The staff were amazing, so hard working, friendly going above and beyond the call of duty. We lost our credit card the first day before sailing, the staff worked with our hotel to retrieve it and help us enjoy the rest of our holiday without worry. The room steward was like a ghost in/out without us knowing, working very hard and providing fun towel toys for children.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
The ships quality was excellent - very well laid out with the lido central and food and entertainment spread out around it. Public areas always clean and well maintained and the decor fresh and smart. Only one negative comment and that is that smoking was allowed on certain areas of the lido - as a family marketed vacation i do not think this is a good health factor for children and adults nor a good role model for children. I think other areas out of the way of the general population should have been provided.

Cabin / Stateroom

Our statement with a view was excellent. We had a double bed and boys had bunk beds which were really good and fun and very comfortable. The rooms were spotlessly clean and well decorated and maintained, the facilities were perfect for our needs and comfort.

Pros: The ship!

Cons: The food.
