The Cruise Experience

Sail Date: July 06, 2009

Reviewed: 7 years ago

Traveled As: Family (young children)

Room Type: Inside

The moment we stepped onto the ship we were treated like royalty. Our steward greeted us by name and came immediatelly when called upon. We enjoyed the variety of food and the entertainment for the family. Our son enjoyed Camp Carnival and made some wonderful friendships. We felt safe the entire cruise and truly enjoyed the experience. Our only suggestion to anyone considering a cruise is that you talk to the crew regarding the excursions. While we enoyed our excursion in the Bahamas, we were also looking forward to shopping in the straw market and other local shops. However, once we returned from our excursion we were disappointed to find that several shops had closed and all others would be closing within 30 minutes of our return. Apparently closing time is between 5:30 and 6:00 p.m. We had been told that our son could exchange his "pirate coins" (collected on his Pirate Adventure Excursion) for goodies in several of the local shops. Again we were disappointed when one shop owner said we must buy something first and another of the shops had been out of business for quite some time. A local cab driver informed us that we would have spent less and been better infromed if we had simply booked our excursion with the actual tour companies instead of through the cruise agents. We'll know better next time! Yes, we do plan to book another cruise. Overall, we had the time of our lives!

Pros: the food and the service

Cons: the tiny pool

Recommends Carnival Fascination? Yes!

Cabin / Stateroom
Very clean but also tiny
Entertainment
The comedians and juggler were fantastic - I appreciated the family friendly content. We didn't particularly enjoy the Piano Bar entertainer or the "Hairy Chest" competition while we were trying to soak up the sun by the pool.
Ship Quality
I would like to see a larger pool area with more slides and areas for children to splash around. The pool looked like it was full of sardines slapping around.
Food and Dining
The Coconut Bar and Grill was a wonderful place to hang out and eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner. However, the Sensation Dining room was also a wonderful place for high end dining. I especially loved the Baked Alaska dessert and our serenading waiter.
Service and Staff
Everyone was very gracious!
Children's Programs
Camp Carnival offered our son multiple activities and kept him wanting to return for more. He particularly enjoed the crafts, Dodge Ball and the late night pizza and ice cream buffets. Our nine year old had the option to sign himsefl in and out of the activites - we weren't huge fans of this as we didn't want him roaming the ship unsupervised. We checked him in and out ourselves.
Key West, Florida
We rented an electric car to view Key West. We visited the Shipwreck Museum, visited shops, and ate at Red Fish,Blue Fish (our waiter was sweatty and the food was so-so). We were pretty bored most of the day. We do not plan to visit Key West again.
Nassau, Bahamas
We did enjoy snorkiling on the Pirate Adventure Excusion but we heard rave reviews from all who visited the Atlantis. We would have enjoed our trip more if we had been able to shop more. We wished we could have gotten off the boat ealier in the day. We missed most of the shops due to the early closing hours. We loved the prices in those shops we did get to visit. The Straw Market is a must see! However, you need deep pockets if you eat at the Poop Deck! The food is yummy but expensive!
