Review summary

.My daughter booked this cruise for us, with it being our first and probably last, especially with carnival. This cruise was booked for my wife and i 42ed anniversary. My daughter has been on many cruises and really talked this experience up especially carnival. From the first hour of being on this ship, i can not tell you how rude staff was to all of us a number of times. Outside the formal dinning staff.. When we looked at booking this trip on this boat with carnival, the amenities advertised to us for this ship, was not even on or with this ship. There was hardly any activities to do, especially after dinner. Over half the bars, lounges and other areas of the boat never once had anyone in them at any time doing anything. My daughter specially asked to pay all charges up front, taxes and gratuity. Only to get on the boat and receive a bill the last night for this again for each of us, another couple hundred dollars. My daughter Karen who booked the trip was supposed to get a $50 on board credit for each room she booked. Along with many other people on the ship complaining she never recived it. They did leave her a voucher in her room with someone else information on it. Karen confirmed 2 weeks before we left that this was taken care of through carnival, along with all other necessary requirments. She nor anyone else on that ship recived their credit as they were told. The drink packages were all wrong for each person. My daughter Karen was charged several charges for her daughter who was 17 for alcohol beverages which should not of even been allowed. The food was medoker at best on the ship. We ate better on the islands and some little shake. A nuimber of times we saw staff leaning against walls or tables complaining about how tired they were. That is all fine but never in front of the customers and never when it puts a customer waiting 30 minutes for something that should take 5 at best. I can honestly say, i don't ever see any of us booking with carnival again for reasons i could sit here and go on and on about.

You should be grateful for the generosity of your daughter and say thank you and keep your negative comments to yourself. The staff are not there to wait on you hand and foot. A cruise is what you make it like any other vacation. I am sure you have had other bills in your lifetime that were incorrect...all you have to do is POLITELY tell someone at customer service and if it is incorrect they will fix it. I have a family member that has worked on Carnival and I guarantee you the staff never lean on anything complaining how tired they are...they would lose their job instantly. There code of ethics and attitude is very strict and must be followed at all times. I think it was your negative attitude not theirs. I think you need to look at other vacations or just stay home

Cruising is not for everyone. The Fantasy is a smaller ship but very enjoyable.

Did your daughter pay for this for you as a gift or just book it on your behalf? If she gave it as a gift, it’s sad you couldn’t find anything nice to say and you were so miserable. Attitude is everything. I have been on several cruises and have never experienced even close to the situations you described. Maybe you’re expectations are way too high for Carnival and you should book your own trip next time with the cruise line of your choice.

Karen, I'm so sorry that your loving and generous gift to your parents was not appreciated. I think that you are an awesome daughter.

I have been on 4 Carnival Cruises, ALL on the Fantasy, most recent June 2018. We have never had a complaint. Friendly, top notch service, staff smiling and almost always cleaning. I can't say I EVER heard a staff member complaining or saw slacking, rather the opposite. Evening entertainment? The comedy club was overflowing full every night, shows in theater 75%+ capacity, at least. The crowd fluctuated in the Piano Bar, but always had folks there singing along and laughing. We danced and enjoyed the bands by the Century 21 Bar (by casino, which btw, was always hopping) each night. No food complaints either, LOVE Guy's Burgers and the Cantina burritos, Sea Day Brunch is fantastic and leisurely, nice dinners in dining room every night (chocolate lava cakes the best!). I honestly am baffled by this post.

Sorry your trip was so bad but maybe cruising just isn’t for you,I have been on several and I still cry on the last day. I think I get way more than my money’s worth.hope you find your ideal vacation.

We will be going on our third carnival cruise in November, second on fantasy. We always have fun but our expectations are appropriate for what we pay. Fantasy is an older ship, the price is dirt cheap. We don't expect 5 star food for the price we pay but even so, it's decent. And I find it hard to believe nobody was in the lounges after dinner. Maybe the clientele on this particular cruise was a little older? Cruising is a lot about your attitude. How much fun you have depends on you. However, I have never experienced rude staff. If anything, I feel they go way beyond considering what these folks are paid and the months spent away from home.

As others have said, never had an experience like that.

It's carnival. You get what you pay for. It's a cheap cruise. If you want excellent food and service, book a high end line. It's hard to feed so many people all at once. I've never had a bad cruise experience on any line. But we always look for the positives and ignore the negatives. It's all in perspective. If you talked to them about bill issues, maybe they would have been resolved. If the drink packages were messed up, just talk to them and get it straightened out. Your daughter should have had confirmation papers for all of the things she paid for in advance.

I agree with the other posters, it sounds as if you were expecting the moon and only got a star. I'm sure there was some redeeming experience on this cruise-umm the fact you were with your beloved spouse and family comes to mind. I think you should do the resort vacations in the future and hope the staff is Johnny on the spot for your every whim.

I agree with these comments...another person who has nothing good to say...I just don’t ever undestand

So... There was absolutely nothing that made your anniversary special on this cruise? What a shame!

retirednana23b    6 years ago

Hmmm, sounds as if you were ill-prepared for cruising and had not done your own due diligence. I agree with the post above that you need to try another type of vacation. But before you go on another vacation, do your homework so that you know what to expect.

Been on over a dozen cruises and never once experienced anything like this. Sounds like cruising might not be for you. Try another type of vacation and good luck.
