staff were excellent - but too focused on party crowd

Sail Date: March 07, 2016

Traveled As: Family w/older children

Room Type: Oceanview

First of all the staff on the ship were awesome - we met many wonderful folks.  The guy who took care of our stateroom was amazing,  Met us the first day when we boarded, asked our names and never forgot them.  Always greeted us with a cheery hello.  Wait staff was great.  Even tho it was our kids spring break we didn't realize it would be quite so party focused.  More than half the cruise was college age kids that took advantage of the cheers program.  Too bad that you have to go to the bars to utilize your bottomless bubbles, my kids sometimes had to wait 15 minutes just to get a soda.  Total waste of money to buy that, especially since they provide ice tea and lemonade free around the clock.    Also make sure you check out your ships anemities based on what you want to do.  Our kids wanted to swim but only one pool and it was constantly surrounded with the college kids sitting around the pool one leg in drink in hand.  And every hot tub that was on the cruise was 21+.  Boat definitely catered to the 21-28 year old crowd.   Extras on fantasy weren't that great.  I've heard of other Carnival ships having movies around pool at night, sports court, this ship didn't have any of that.  mini golf on top was fun but pretty basic.  Waterslide was fun but didn't go down into a pool.

All in all staff are what made the experience great, I'd definitely research more next time.  Cruise line to see if focus is party and drinking, find out what ship has to offer, pools, extras, etc.

Cabin / Stateroom
i was pleasantly surprised by the staterooms. we had two adjoined. Kids had 3 beds. two bunks with plenty of space and third twin. Two bathrooms for family of 5 with teenagers was definitely needed - happy we didn't stuff into one room. Plus the window was nice so it wasn't so dark although we could have done without that if need be.
Embarkation and Disembarkation
you had to wait in lines but that's to be expected when that many people board in a short time. But getting on lines move pretty fast. Nice to have bags delivered to room. Leaving we had to wait in the lounge about an hour past our disembarkment time but it was a comfy place to wait watching a movie so that wasn't bad. We weren't rushed for our flight.
Ship Quality
ship was well kept and clean. Maintenance folks around doing up keep.
Destinations and Excursions
Cozumel was a lot of fun. Unfortunately we didn't get to stop in Key West - it was too windy for the boat to dock. That was a bummer.
Onboard Activities
Not as much as we had heard about from other cruisers - definitely check out the ship you are on.
Entertainment
Comedians were lots of fun - we went to the family version. Shows in the big lounge were just ok. Not something that interested the family . Was hoping they'd have a movie theatre or movies around the pool at night or something
Service and Staff
Our cabin staff, Aloy, was great. introduced himself day 1 and asked our names and said them everytime we came back to the room. Really enjoyed the towel animals he left in our room.
Food and Dining
We enjoyed the food and liked the dining option to try different things.
Miami, Florida
Cozumel, Mexico
we had extra long here because we had to skip key west. walked around square in the morning and enjoyed shopping. Went back to eat lunch on ship and change for afternoon excusrion to swim with dolphins - great!

Tip

Don't go in march with kids - boat caters to the 21-28 crowd. Not enough activities for kids. one pool but around bar area, all hot tubs over 21.

Go for the flex time dining. Never had to wait more than 5 minutes to get a seat. It was nice going at our leisure.
