Merry Christmas Cruise!

The Carnival Fantasy cruise to the Bahamas was a very relaxing way to spend our holiday vacation time!  Pre-planning is key to making sure all the activities you would like to do fall into place once you are onboard.  While onbard, guest services provides a daily itinerary of events for each of the days so you can do the onboard pre-planning.  There is so much for all ages to do that you really have to decide whether to just relax or be busy all the time.  Both the relaxed dining and fine dining were highlights to mealtimes because the food was plentiful and delicious!  Who could ever have enough bacon for breakfast each morning?  The desserts were my favorite way to end each meal.  The dining staff were always courteous, accomodating, and very attentive.

The excursions on each of the islands Freeport/ Nassau were a great way to break up the travel.  Freeport seemed pretty basic.  The "beach getaway" package made for a relaxing first day with our toes in the sand and cool ocean breeze with clear blue waters to visually sooth the senses while kicked back in a lounge chair sipping on a Pina Colada.  Our second day in Nassau was doing the full day at Atlantis enjoying the water park.  Alot of exciting aquariums/ sealife to see, beaches and pools to relax around, lazy rivers to float on a water tube on, and lunch included.  While the package was a little pricey per person, it was definitely worth it, not to mention it was Christmas Day!  Nice present to treat everyone to.

The entertainment staff onbard keep the days and nights lively and the holiday spirit was definitely felt with the entertainment shows in the Universe show room.  Jacque, Connor & Kelly, Jenna, Sunny, and so many more of the crew really help to personalize your time while cruising.  The only area I saw for improvement was with the dancing activities.  It could be a little more structured to have all involved with the dancing, including the teens.  At times I felt there was no structure to keep everyone involved especially in the "Caribbean Night" dance time and it tended to fall apart with the teens taking over the dance floor dancing to emo music in a mosh pit.  What up with that?  Don't recall having any great Caribbean music songs to have danced to which was the theme of the night.   But overall, my wife and I  got some dance time in doing the "Wobble" among several other group favorites.  Fun times for all!!

Already pre-planning our next cruise.  Thanks Carnival for a happy holiday experience!!

Ship Quality
Always saw a hub of activity with the crew maitaining the ship one way or another.
Food and Dining
Courteous, entrertaining, and attentive!
Cabin / Stateroom The room staff everday kept our room well kept. On the first day our shower area wa sslow to drain, so called with the concern and the plumbing/ maintenance staff took care of it immediately. Highly impressed with their quick timing to address individual concerns.
Service and Staff
Dining staff, cooks, room staff, and all staff unseen seemed to be well coordinated as a team effort.
Entertainment Jacque, Connor & Kelly, Jenna, Sunni all made the entertainment special for the holidays. Enjoyed the comedians for the family friendly versions, but thought the unedited showtimes were kind of raunchy and lacked class.
Children's Programs
Did not experience the childrens programs, but did notice a few groups of pre-teens/ teenagers acting disrespectful, damaging cruiseliner property, running in hallways at night being noisey, and smoking in non-smoking areas. Need to monitor teens a little more closely or have parents be more attentive.
Onboard Activities
Enjoyed most activities that we did. Only objection was to lack of good music for all ages for all to participate in and having a dance instructor to guide the group. Also, believe the ship should be more smoke free. The bar and gambling areas really wreaked of tar & nicotine and this smell carried throughout other common areas within the ship which was unpleasant for this non-smoker.
Destinations and Excursions
Freeport - could have been a little better, but I guess you get what you pay for, right? Nassau - was very nice. I had been there before so knew what to try to select in our package to get the most "bang for our buck". Cost quite a bit more per person, but was worth it to enjoy that day.
Charleston, South Carolina
Book a hotel room with long-term vehicle parking to save money. Certain hotels will provide this along with a shuttle to and from the ship. Shuttle buses could be a little less confusing by having some type of notice on them as to their destination. Had a same hotel chain almost provide us return ride to the wrong hotel.
Freeport, Grand Bahama Island
With "Beach Getaway" package get lunch with package with it. Might cost a little more but you get unlimited drinks & food and in the end would probably be worth the added expense. We did not do this, but in hindsight wish we had.
Nassau, Bahamas
Full Beach Day Aqua Adventure With Lunch - a little pricey per person, but well worth it. Would be nice if they provided unlimited beverages to stay hydrated, but not part of the package.

Tip

Older ship, but well maintained. Coffee could have been of a better selection. Be mindful of island locals - while they are for the most part pleasant, they are also out to get your $$$. A little unsettling when on excursions coming across unaffiliated vendors who would try to get your business.
