The not-so-hot cruise...

Sail Date: July 09, 2011

Reviewed: 5 years ago

Traveled As: Family w/older children

Room Type: Oceanview

I had a great time with my family, but the ship left a lot to be desired. Embarking was a horrendous 2 hour wait in the car and the vibe was chaotic once we got on the ship. The food in the dining room was great, but other than that, there wasn't much else that was good. Our wait staff was fabulous, but we never even met our steward. Also, the entertainment was terrible. The show on the first night started with a giant couch on stage with moving eye brows and moustache. I wan't sure if I was taking a ride on the great space coaster or being punk'd. It was all very cheesy.

Pros: Being with my family, the dining room staff, and the chef's table experience.

Cons: The majority of the entertainment staff was terrible and seemed to be hungover every morning. The shows were horrible and cheesy. The decor was very dated and the public bathrooms were filthy even though they constantly had signs on them that they were being cleaned.

Recommends Carnival Fantasy? No.

Service and Staff
Our waiter was excellent along with 2 of the entertainment staff who seemed sober most of the time. The cruise director was ok, but she never talked to us and barely smiled when passing us in the hall.
Lots to do as long as we were at sea. Pretty dead when at port. The activities would have been much more fun if the leaders of the activities acted like they wanted to be there.
Ship Quality
Not the cleanest ship. Confusing layout with two dining rooms, but other than that, ok.
Food and Dining
Great dining experience in the restaurants. Not so much in the buffet.
Cabin / Stateroom
The room was very nice. Liked having a window.
Half Moon Cay, Bahamas (Private Island)
Fantastic beach! Rent a float or clam shell and relax all day!
Grand Turk Island
A very poor and humbling area of the world.
Don't Miss: Trolly tour of the island. Fun and informative.
Nassau, Bahamas
Took a 2 1/2 hour tour for $20. Very reasonable.
Don't Miss: Straw market
