I have read many discouraging things about the Fantasy so I didn't know what to expect from our cruise. It was a surprisingly wonderful experience! Yes, she is 13 years old and is showing her age - but she is clean and in good repair. If you're looking for an elegant interior or tend to view things with a super critical eye, you may be disappointed. But the Fantasy is a very pretty ship with much to offer to passengers looking for a few days of non-stop fun. The crew is first rate! We didn't encounter one rude crew member during the entire cruise. Our dining room wait team was outstanding and attended to our every whim. And the food! It was outstanding! It is obvious that Carnival takes great pride in their menu offerings as well as in presentation. The midnight buffet is served in the main dining rooms every night (except one and that was because there was a midnight celebration on Lido deck that included the buffet). The cruise director was excellent and entertaining, and the onboard activities were numerous, varied and fun! There was something going on for everyone at all times. The Fantasy dancers and singers in the Universe Lounge were top notch, and the two shows they performed were exceptional. There was also a wonderful classical pianist named Jane who played in a quiet area called the Majestic Lounge - be sure to make time to listen to her play! Our cabin was the area that showed the most age, but it was very clean, and our cabin steward was wonderful. If you are allergic to cigarette smoke, this may not be the cruise for you. There were several areas we avoided because the concentration of smoke was pretty high - the casino and Cleopatra's Piano Bar were the worst. However, in fairness to Carnival, that isn't the cruise line's fault. The main dining rooms as well as the show lounge are non- smoking areas and the Majestic lounge was pretty smoke free as well. This was a wonderful experience all the way around. If you are looking for a great time, this ship and it's crew are dedicated to making sure you have one.
