We had really nice time on this cruise

Sail Date: March 24, 2012

Reviewed: 5 years ago

Traveled As: Family (young children)

Room Type: Inside

This was my family's first cruise and we all really liked it and plan on going back again with Carnival.

Pros: The variety of activities on the ship

Cons: The crowded decks during the day and inflexible diner times and the special reservations

Recommends Carnival Elation? Yes!

Food and Dining
Food was perfect, my family really enjoyed the different buffet options: italian, mongolian, sushi, etc. Food was available all the time and was good quality.
Alcohol was more expensive than regular sports bars, but this may be normal for cruises. American beers were about $6 and imported beers were about $5.
One thing we didn't like was our late dining, 8:15 pm. This was too late for us and we couldn't switch it to the earlier one. Special reservations were available, but there were so many people waiting that it was very difficult to get a table outside the regular scheduled time.
Ship Quality
I haven't been on many other ships to compare with, but my family definitely enjoyed being on this one. The decks were a bit crowded during the day with everybody trying to stay close the pools, but overall it's a spacious ship for its medium cruise size. It was clean and busboys were picking up empty plates, cups and trays all the time. Embarkation and debarkation times were pretty good and very well organized. The ship was always on schedule on all ports.
Service and Staff
The staff was very well trained and professional in all aspects.
There was an emergency and a helicopter was called to pick up the person. It was handled very well and very fast, with success.
They had it all! This was our first cruise and I was amazed how much was going on in regards to activities and fun stuff for the passengers. Everyday there were nightly variety shows, karaoke, dance, casino, comedy shows and many other options. Professional photographers were available all the time to take pictures of you and your family.
Children's Programs
The children programs and activities were probably one of the biggest advantage of this cruise for us. We have a 5 years old son and 10 years old daughter, both of them were busy all the time with different activities for kids. This was without including the pools and the different options on the outer decks.
Cabin / Stateroom
Our interior room for 4 was okay for its size, although it was difficult to move around will all 4 of us in the room. After all, you get there just to shower and sleep. The service for the room was excellent.
The only thing I didn't like about the room was the lack of enough outlets. We had just ONE in the room and another one in the bathroom, which was on only while the bathroom light was on, so it was difficult to charge phones, laptop, e-reader, electric toothbrushes, batters for camera, camcorder and talkie-talkies, and gaming consoles. Be prepared with more batteries if you are planning to stay in the same type of room on this ship.
