Our Christmas Cruise on the Elation was a great experience for our family. Having never sailed on Carnival, I was wondering how the cheaper carrier would rate but the boat/crew were surprisingly good.

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
The food was hit and miss - most of the formal dining fare was lame tho there were some notable exceptions. The self-serve lines were mostly pretty decent. Food would tempt us to look at another cruise line, but not sure the higher prices elsewhere would be worth it.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
Only took in a couple of shows - they were ok. Personally I would have enjoyed a cinema.

Children's Programs

1 out of 5
Mostly uninteresting. We were hoping for Grandma to participate with our kids but she wasn't allowed, so our kids mostly didn't participate. Also wanted our 8-yr old to get to be with his 9-yr old cousin but they weren't allowed to cross age groups.

Service and Staff

3 out of 5
The staff were quite friendly and helpful but didn't have much above and beyond. Our formal server was excellent however.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Again, for a "cheap" party boat the Elation was really nice overall.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
We had two adults and three kids in an interior stateroom but it was more than adequate. Our kids slept better on this cruise than they have in years.

Pros: Time with family

Cons: Food was hit and miss

Recommends Carnival Elation? Yes!
