Fantasy - Not what it used to be...

Sail Date: October 01, 2008

This was our 5th time on the Fantasy. We love sailing out of New Orleans and have been excited to see what the ship looks like since being refurbished. Many of the new changes look good but we wonder if it is ready for passengers yet. The sewage system is definately not working properly because a foul odor is always present in the center portions of the ship. The water system is not working well as the fresh water smells and tastes very bad. There was a shortage of water and the laundry and water park had to be shut down on the final day of the cruise. In past cruises on the Fantasy, we have been especially impressed with the stability of the ship. It was solid as a rock regardless of the sea conditions. This time, beginning immediately while cruising down the Mississippi, the ship pitched and rolled very noticebally. Several crew members remarked that they did not think the stabilizers were functional. This DEFINATELY needs to be corrected!!

We know that this is a budget cruise and don't expect perfection, but have learned that we can expect a lot for our money from Carnival. This time, I think we came up a little short. We will be back on the Fantasy in 3 weeks and hope that some of the kinks will have been worked out by then.

Pros: New decor, loved the Serenity Deck, liked the new shops

Cons: Terrible smell of sewer gas in the center section of the ship. Made it difficult. In the past, this ship has been as solid as a rock.. This time, it must have had stabilizer problems because it pitched and rolled badly for the entire cruise.

Recommends Carnival Elation? Yes!
