Sail Date: February 12, 2009
Ship: Carnival Elation
Cabin Type: Oceanview
Traveled As: Couple

We started out by sending my wife to the Spa and getting almost $600 in services to make her feel like a queen and get pampered. She came back to the room depressed that they told her she had a laundry list of things wrong with her skin and needed several hundred more dollars in products. That set the mood for the rest of the cruise.

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
The buffet was a typical buffet with cold food and low quality. The dining room for dinner was very nice except the waiters pushing to sell drinks.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
Stu the cruise director was great and tried to get everyone involved in activities.

Service and Staff

3 out of 5
Everybody seemed friendly but also they tried to sell you everything under the sun.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
The ship seemed to be clean but smelled like an old hotel.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Our room was of good size with an ocean view. Very good service from the staff but there were two small blood stains on the comforter.

We took a shuttle into town and caught a bus tour for a total cost of $17 per person which was much less expensive than the ships tour of La Bufadora. Once there the locals were very pushy trying to sell their products. The prices were very high. We ate lunch at Habana Cabana and for two burritos, one magarita and two beers it was $36.

Pros: Courtious stateroom staff.

Cons: Everyone tried to pressure us into paying for extras.
