Old Ship, Good Crew, No rules

Sail Date: November 01, 2013

Traveled As: Couple

Room Type: Oceanview

This class of ship is tired and boring. Carnival had 2 bars on the Lido deck\, but only kept 1 open for most of the cruise\, both were open for departure\, then never saw the other open again\, and the one they kept open allowed for smoking.

The dining room staff was fun\, but no one enforces the rules\, you can walk into the dining room with a hat\, flip-flops\, swimsuit\, pajamas\, you might be able to walk in naked\, I doubt anyone would say anything. People with beards\, a convention of bikers\, were putting umbrellas and all sorts of food in their beards\, as if we would all think this was exciting in the full service dining room\, yet the staff did ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. Maybe acting liked an idiot is common in the crew's homelands\, Carnival needs to crack down and follow their own rules\, or why bother having them?

Don't ask for Champagne\, they had to often run from one bar to another looking for it. We should be allowed to bring on our own case of it\, as Carnival does not seem to carry it or make it an issue. Service was spotty on Deck 9 in the areas outside the pictures and casino\, so if you are reading a book or playing cards there\, bring your own vino\, bucket of beers or your drink of choice\, because you might as well be in a desert.

Pros: New shows\, new food.

Cons: hats on in dining room\, pajamas worn to dining room\, slow service at times.

Recommends Carnival Ecstasy? No.

Great new shows\, and the Hasbro program was fun. Would love to see a \"Minute to win it\" show.
Service and Staff
Staff was good\, in general\, but there were issues with their timliness in attending to issues. At times\, you could find someone to clean tables\, but no one to take your drink order. Someone needs to look at the mix of people for both.
Cabin / Stateroom
Great cleaning staff\, and we had towel animals every night and our bed area was always clean\, great job with laundry as well. Best part of the cruise! Certainly most reliable!
Food and Dining
Food was good\, I would have rated this higher\, but the dining room ambiance was a bust with staff who did not enforce their own rules of appearance in the dining room. Might as well turn this into bus travel\, the appearance was such!
Ship Quality
Ship is old and tired\, we were told by others that it caught fire in 1998\, but Carnival did its best to add some newer features\, but its an old ship and the layout is old\, with few balconies and not as many amenities as the newer ships. Not quite the average cruise ship.
