This was our 10th cruise and the second one with carnival.
We wanted to give an introduction into cruising to six friends of us. Over all, our friends were impressed about beauty of the Bahamas, the real good dinners and how relaxed a cruise can be.
However, we cannot absolutely recommend to anyone a cruise on the Carnival Ecstasy.
The ship itself is rather old with many tiny flaws, e.g. letters at the bars fallen off; showers at the pool not working properly. On the other hand, the relative cheap price that we have paid balances this out.
The food quality at the Wind Song Restaurant is outstanding. Unfortunately, there have been too few waiters for too many tables. As a result the eight of us have not been served simultaneously so that always someone had to wait for their meals or drinks. We have to emphasize that this has been an organizational issue - the waiters, especially Filiand, cannot be blamed at all; they were great.
We went for the Cheers Beverage Program. From the advertisements it reads as a good deal and it could be if there was an appropriate service at the bars on Lido deck. I have to say that I never experience a poorer bar service.
There are two bars on the Lido deck, the Red Frog and the Blue Iguana. The Blue Iguana was open only now and again, most of time it was closed so that all passengers had to queue up at the Red Frog Bar where most of the time only two bar tenders were on duty. Those two bar tenders had to cope with all the guest in queue as well as they had to take care of the supplies, so that something was not available at any time, and they had to work with only one Margarita maker. The organization of the pool bars was a complete joke.
From all the people who were serving at the Red Frog one person, Leon, shall be mentioned explicitly. I have never come across any customer facing associate who shows such a low commitment and bad attitude to his clients and with respect to the Cheers program we got the impression that because of the program we have been served after other patrons who have not subscribed to the Cheers beverage program.
To wrap it up: This cruise will not leave an impression but no hard feelings as well. We cannot recommend it to other customers but we recommend to Carnival to take a closer look at the leading staff to get the ship better organized.
