Tricked and Confused

Sail Date: July 16, 2012

Traveled As: Couple

Room Type: Inside

When you first see the Carnival Ecstasy it is a nice clean ship. Looks fun, all that Carnival would offer you think. As soon as you get on the ship you have to wait about 1hr or more to be able to see your rm. Which was fine, because you want to explore the ship anyway. But a huge disappointment to us was (we thought we just weren't going to the right place) when we only saw 1 pool for a ship of 2,000+ people. We also went at my guess one of the busiest times of yr. : Mid July. The pool is cram packed with people at all hours of the day. If you want to go to the pool, you pretty much need to visit during dinner hour, if you are willing to miss it, to have leg room, really ANY room in the pool. There were 2 hot tubs by the pool, which are packed with children at all times. These hot tubs were also WAY too hot. Would almost scorch your skin getting in them. The 2 'Adult' tubs they had at the back of the ship were not even functioning properly.. being at about lukewarm temperature. This was our first day impression thus far. Then our room was very nice for what we paid i think. Tight quarters, but alright. We dont like to be in the room anyway. The ship is cleanly and looks good, old and dated, but good. So overall, we were pretty surprised. Especially considering the accomodations on the Lido deck. :

Pros: The stops.

Cons: Unknown charges to card for gratuities- EVEN IF you PRE-PAY. Do not let this fool you!

Recommends Carnival Ecstasy? No.

Ship Quality
The ships size is i would think average. It is about 10 decks. Even though it says 12, that is a little spa and running track which was nice. The ship I felt was small comparing to 2 different ones I have been on before previously, which was Royal Carribean, and of course, who can out-do Disney? Ship could definitely be updated for sure. The bars are nice. But there are 10-1 bars than pools. Not what everyone looks for in a cruise sadly.
Food and Dining
The reason I rate this poorly is not that the food was particularly BAD. It wasn't AVAILABLE when they said it would be! The first day we got on the Mongolian Wok, which was our favorite- NEVER opened again after that first day! They advertise a lot of the food and buffets as 24 hr. which just so you know - is ONLY old pizza and soft serve ice cream. Good but not if its the only thing you can eat b/c you miss the buffet by 5 min. Old cold fries and hard not-juicy burgers for the "midnight buffet" was a real disappointment. This is no buffet. They do not have anything but those burgers, fries, some old fruit and yogurt and milk. That is about it. Do not expect much until your seated dinner in your Windstar dining room, which then only certain things on the menu are 'wow'. By the way- we had no idea but apparently crab ANYTHING is 'out of season' all summer! They only have lobster one night on the cruise. And its small. If you ARE wanting seafood on your vaca-Conch Republic/Key West stop
Cabin / Stateroom
Great room staff. Good about cleanliness and leaving cute towel animals on your bed when you return from your night activities. Greeted us by name and introduced themselves. Very pleased with the room staff. The room itself was all-right.
Service and Staff
Our room attendants were the best out of everyone. We did the "Your time dining". We did meet some friends on board who we had dinner with one night for the assigned dining. Which we actually enjoyed more. You have specific waiters every night that you get to know. Just like on the Disney cruises. If I could re-do it, I would have done that instead. Seeing you do get to see the same people every night, catch up on what you did and saw at the ports and the staff seems much more attentive to your needs.
Entertainment
Entertainment definitely they could have taken a step up! The comedy club was definitely one of the best things they had. With 'ceejay'- who is hilarious. Also the adult scavenger hunt was fun. Those were great. But when we went to bingo they said it was $20 MINIMUM to play b/c for some reason the $10 cards were sold out. hmmm.? Sadly , they didn't have too many other things going on that didn't involve spending money.
Children's Programs
No children went on this cruise with us.
