Decent Cruise for the price

I read several reviews of this ship in advance of booking and have to say overall, they were pretty accurate. This is an older ship with nice upkeep but lacking in amenities and onboard entertainment compared to the newer ships. For me it was a last minute, unbudgeted excursion, and my first cruise. It was fine for that. I have no regrets about this cruise given the circumstances under which it was booked. However, for subsequent cruises I will pay a higher price point to be on a newer boat with a greater variety of amenities and entertainment..

Pros: Cabin Service, Staff Friendliness

Cons: Onboard Entertainment

Recommends Carnival Ecstasy? Yes!

Entertainment
This was the one disappointment. The onboard entertainment was MAJORLY lacking. We had a formal night, when people were all dressed up in evening attire, but no formal activities-NONE. Not even a production by the ship entertainment staff. Instead they had a secton of the ship which had an endless line of photographers-each with a different backdrop for you to have your picture taken in your formal wear. Entertainment on other nights included the cruise director doing a 15 minute juggling act, and playing his fiddle! The last night of the cruise they had a top notch musical type show which was well produced and quite enjoyable, which begged the question...why not have this on "formal night" so people could at least go to dinner and a show! On the 4th of July they did nothing at all in recogntion of the holiday until a 10PM gala on one of the upper decks....not even american themed food in the dining rooms that night. As a whole, the entertainment/activities were sorely lacking.
Ship Quality
The ship was constantly be cleaned, vacuumed, mopped polished, so no complaints about cleanliness. This is an older ship with very limited amenities compared to the newer ones. There was only one pool area which was usually overrun with kids. The adult serenity deck was very peaceful and a welcome break from the kids, but it only had two hot tubs-no pool. I knew on the front end that this was an older ship with limited amenities and was fine with that, but if you are expecting multiple pools, basketball&volleyball courts, and a lot of the "extras" of the newer ships, you will be disappointed.
Food and Dining
The dinner menu was excellent&service in the dining rm was top notch. However, the breakfast and lunch buffets were good but not great. The food was decent, but similar to a Golden Corral buffet, a lot of basic choices, but nothing exceptional or noteworthy.
Cabin / Stateroom
Our stateroom was impeccable and stayed that way through out. It was serviced a least twice a day. Turn down service each night with chocoloates left on the pillow, and the towels folded into a different animal shape each evening.
Service and Staff
Every Carnival staff member I dealt with wa exceptionally polite and went above and beyond the call of duty.
